Who you are
- The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical foundation, deep experience driving cross-functional initiatives, and a track record of building the operational infrastructure that high-growth companies need to thrive
- 8–15+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, management consulting, or a combination, with meaningful time in a high-growth environment
- Proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes
- Strong analytical skills and comfort building financial models, interpreting data, and making evidence-based recommendations
- Experience managing and developing high-performing teams, with the ability to lead through influence across functions you don't directly own
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to distill complexity and present clearly to executives and external stakeholders
- Structured thinker who can zoom out to set strategy and zoom in to get things done
- High ownership mentality; you don't wait to be told what needs fixing

What the job involves
- Spark is hiring a VP of Operations to own operational excellence and strategic execution across the company
- We're looking for a proven leader who can scale systems, processes, and teams to support Spark's next phase of growth while maintaining the speed and scrappiness that got us here
- This role reports directly to the COO and will work closely with leaders across Sales, Finance, Product, and Customer Success to identify opportunities, eliminate friction, and ensure the business runs with precision
- Own the strategic vision for how Spark operates: defining priorities, building the roadmap, and driving execution across key business functions
- Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives from ideation through implementation, ensuring alignment and accountability at every step
- Build and maintain rigorous operational cadences: business reviews, planning cycles, KPI tracking, and reporting frameworks that keep the leadership team informed and moving
- Analyze business performance data to surface trends, identify bottlenecks, and translate insights into concrete action
- Build financial models and business cases to support strategic investments and resource allocation decisions
- Design and optimize core operational processes to improve efficiency and scalability as Spark grows
- Partner with Product to identify automation opportunities and reduce reliance on manual workflows
- Support change management efforts related to new systems, tools, and organizational structures
- Act as a thought partner to the COO and broader leadership team on the company's most critical strategic questions
Our take
Medicare is the national health insurance package for US citizens over the age of 65, with most people that seek to enrol in a plan making use of brokers to help them evaluate and select options. Spark is a technology company and “concierge” service that partners with independent Medicare brokers and provides a platform that helps them navigate and build retirement benefit packages for customers.
Handling the marketing, sales support, back office, and compliance requirements of Medicare brokering, Spark bridges the gap between insurance agents and their customers. The company already has partnerships with more than 100 leading Medicare agencies that represent over 3400 brokers, a good starting point from which to grow.
Agetech is a growing market, due to an aging population and longer lifespans, and Spark has benefitted from an increased demand and interest in Medicare brokering. Highlighting this is its 2024 raise of a $25 million Series B funding round that will support its future growth and product development.
