Role
Who you are
- 5-7 years of experience working across Management Consulting, Strategy, or Operations. Bonus for experience working on hard operational problems i.e. supply chain, logistics, pricing, etc
- Proven track record - you’ve owned business-critical programs and launched 0-to-1 initiatives in high-paced environments
- An extreme bias-to-action - you attack every problem you spot full speed when others would still be having meetings about it and you take pride in the quality of your work
- Strong analytical chops - nothing can stand between you and getting a solution stood up whether it’s a back-of-the-envelope model in excel or an AI-powered data pipeline in SQL/python (it doesn’t have to look pretty, but you can’t be scared to try)
- An innate problem-solver - you thrive in ambiguity and excel at identifying and structuring problems, distilling complexity, and getting to action
- A strong communicator - you can coordinate stakeholders across functions, align resources, surface risks, and keep teams rowing in the same direction
What the job involves
- We’re making the first hire on our strategic operations team alongside our COO and Chief of Staff to take on the highest priority items across the company and drive lasting, transformational impact. We’re looking for someone with high ownership and world-class bias to action who will be responsible for the following:
- Identify and lead the highest-leverage projects that are too new or complex to have a natural owner within the business. You’ll spin up and own strategic initiatives or functional areas that require urgent focus or long-term incubation—driving execution and impact where the company needs it most
- Partner closely with the COO and Chief of Staff to ensure alignment and delivery of company-level objectives. You’ll help manage the operating cadences that keep the business on track for our ambitious goals, and you’ll lead projects to course correction where needed
- This role is a chance to build and influence the future of one of the fastest-growing startups in the country on some of the most visible and high-impact projects
- Launch and lead critical, zero-to-one initiatives across the business: standing up pilots, solving cross-functional gaps, or incubating functions that don’t yet exist
- Support key projects to “finish the swing” with quality and deliver the anticipated impact
- Investigate and identify underserved / unfinished areas for high leverage project work through analytics and qualitative investigation
- Support the COO and Chief of Staff to execute the annual operating plan through supporting operating rhythms, uncovering areas of concern, and helping functional leaders correct course
- Act as an owner of this business pushing the needle on strategy and priorities

Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 10,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2025 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
