Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent technical field
- Proven track record (7+ years) as a Solution Architect or Software Engineer working on complex system integrations
- Strong sense of ownership and ability to drive results in ambiguous environments
- Experience with code/scripting/automation or data engineering (primarily SQL) with hands-on technical capabilities
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Strong collaboration skills, particularly in partnering with Technical Project Managers
- Experience designing and implementing API and integration solutions at scale
- Experience in client-facing or consulting roles working with enterprise customers
- Track record of solving complex business challenges with external partners
Desirable
- Experience with retail technology systems and e-commerce platforms
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern software engineering practices
- Background in working with stakeholders at various levels, with an ability to align business needs to practical, impactful solutions
- Deep understanding of integration technologies (API Gateway, ESB, middleware, etc.)
- Expert experience in rest API development and debugging

- In this pivotal role, you'll serve as the primary technical liaison between Instacart's Product & Engineering teams, while partnering closely with a diverse array of technology and business stakeholders both internally and externally
- Joining our Solution Architecture team offers a unique opportunity to solve complex challenges at the intersection of retail technology, logistics, and consumer experience as Instacart expands its offering into rapidly growing new markets
- You'll work with a collaborative team of technical experts who are passionate about creating scalable solutions that drive business growth
- End-to-End Solution Design: Own comprehensive solution architecture from conception to implementation, identifying system & business needs, generating innovative proposals, and driving execution through to successful launch
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and nurture relationships with both technical and business stakeholders at Enterprise Retail Partners, communicating complex technical concepts in clear, actionable terms for various audiences
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner and coordinate with multiple internal Instacart teams, ensuring alignment between Product, Design, and Engineering to drive project success
- Technical Expertise: Serve as the technical authority on Instacart's scalable platform and external-facing APIs, ensuring integration excellence and architectural integrity
- Operational Excellence: Develop tools, processes, and documentation with intent to scale partnerships and continuously improve solution deliveryIntegration
- Mastery: Design and implement seamless integration strategies between Instacart's systems and partner technologies, ensuring interoperability and performance

Instacart is an online grocery marketplace that operates a pick-up and delivery system in the US and Canada. Unlike standard grocery shopping, Instacart sends a “personal shopper” to your local store to buy your products, who then delivers them straight to your door on the same day via their own car. The company also supplies the Instacart Platform, with services for stores encompassing eCommerce, fulfilment, in-store, ads, and insights.
The increased modernization of society has meant more than ever that consumers are looking to buy their groceries online, making space for apps like Instacart to become daily life staples for years to come. Although the company must compete with other grocery store delivery services, such as Walmart’s own, it has expanded to cover large percentages of US and Canadian households, and is now aligned with over 900 retail banners across more than 75,000 locations.
Instacart's software offerings signify the company's focus on tech, designed to move it away from its dependence on the gig economy. To this end, the company has acquired FoodStorm, an order management system that powers end-to-end order-ahead and catering, integrating its technology into its enterprise suite. Despite an IPO in September 2023, market downturns have necessitated a 7% workforce cut in 2024, focused on middle management and creating a flatter organisational structure.
