Role
Who you are
- We're seeking a proactive Senior Backend Engineer proficient in crafting reusable and tidy code, with a fervent dedication to delivering top-tier backend applications
- At least 6 years of hands-on experience in developing client-side systems
- Proficiency in working with Event-Driven architecture, demonstrating practical application in previous projects
- Expertise in queue management utilizing technologies such as Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kinesis, or similar platforms
- Demonstrated experience in developing cloud-based systems using AWS or equivalent cloud services
- Contribution to the design, architecture, and development lifecycle of products and services
- Proven track record in delivering highly scalable, quality software, with a strong focus on testing and scalability
- Proficiency in Domain Driven Design principles, coupled with extensive knowledge of API design and a strong testing mindset, preferably with exposure to Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively engage both internally and externally
- Outgoing personality, adept at fostering effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders
- Demonstrated creativity, drive, proactivity, and a willingness to explore and implement new approaches
- Versatile and pragmatic approach to work, capable of functioning autonomously and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams
- Experience mentoring and guiding fellow engineers, with a continuous focus on fostering growth and development within the team
Desirable
- Proficient knowledge in the Symfony framework, showcasing practical application in previous projects
- A constant learning mentality and an interest in new technologies
- Experience in integrating disparate systems using various technologies, demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation) architecture, with hands-on experience preferred
- Demonstrated interest in machine learning and a track record of building data-driven solutions
- Submission of projects that reflect personal pride and accomplishment along with your CV
- Previous experience in a startup environment or involvement in personal projects, illustrating entrepreneurial spirit and self-motivation
What the job involves
- PHP is our primary client-side language but you will also work across backend services with technologies including Python and Node.js
- In this role, you will spearhead the development of Zeelo's backend system, serving as the cornerstone of our customers' booking journey
- This system intricately integrates with multiple external platforms
- Your responsibilities will extend to designing and deploying various APIs, catering to internal consumption as well as external partnerships
Our take
Zeelo provides a personalised shared mobility service for underserved areas using data analytics. The AI-powered algorithm allows the company to design routes that meet the needs of customers, so they can make the most of their travelling time.
The Zeelo platform integrates with an executive vehicle fleet of over 20,000 high quality coaches across the UK in order to serve demand. And as the number one shuttle provider across the US, Uk, and Ireland, Zeelo now transports hundreds of thousands of passengers every month.
With the shifting attitudes towards sustainability, Zeelo now provides services that use less energy and are more sustainable, which will appeal to the environmentally conscious. The challenge will be growing its niche, with stiff competition in everyday ride sharing from Uber and others. But with recent funding, the company looks ready to accelerate its growth across the US and make an even bigger name for itself.
