Role
Who you are
- 3-5 years of experience with end-to-end product design. Experience in Ad, Monetization, Growth or User Safety is preferred
- Work collaboratively with user researchers, product managers, engineers and cross-functional team
- Have cross-platform design experience in web, iOS, and Android
- Excellent communicator who effectively articulates design approaches and solutions with cross-functional teams, stakeholders and senior management
- Deep understanding of graphic design, interaction design and user-centered design principles
- Proficient in design and facilitation tools such as Figma and Miro
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Self-starter who is comfortable working in ambiguity and can collaborate well in a remote working environment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related discipline
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Product Experience Designer to join the Ad and Platform track that covers Ad, Monetization, User Safety, and Platform experiences. You are a system thinker who cares deeply about understanding users to create product experiences that users continually engage with and among readers and writers while protecting their privacy and safety and balancing revenue opportunities.
- You are adept at bridging user motivations towards business outcomes and paying attention to the design details that will keep users reading on Wattpad, participating in the Wattpad community, and paying for premium content, features, and experiences.
- You have been directly engaged with researching user needs, setting user experience priorities, delivering buildable and accessible designs, and evaluating launched experiences to drive the next iteration
- Discover and define the underlying user needs and values that motivate Wattpad users to engage more consistently and deeply
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers and Product Marketers to identify user needs, design seamless interactions, and create experiences that keep users returning for more
- Design the UX and UI flows across platforms (web, iOS, AN) that are accessible and scalable
- Contribute to the design system to ensure consistent design and experience across platforms
- Provide feedback among team members to raise the bar for quality and deliverables

Our take
Content is king and Wattpad has managed to create a platform that aggregates the most loved original writing content in the world, turning the traditional publishing industry on its head.
Where authors used to submit drafts to dozens of publishing houses in the hope of getting some eyeballs on their work, Wattpad opened up the process to millions of young authors by letting them easily submit their work, and fostering a community around their software that offers feedback and help.
The e-reading platform is now looking to double down on its strategy of taking its user-generated fiction and turning it into successful intellectual property upon which original series and movies can be based. However a significant challenge for Wattpad is in producing original, marketable content from its platform given the popularity of fanfiction, stories which are based on existing intellectual property.
Another challenge for Wattpad is the current economic conditions which have affected much of the tech sector and are not sparing digital publishing. Having shelved bold plans for the future it also laid off 15% of its workforce in March 2023. Having realigned for its current business needs however, it is now well placed to weather the current market downturn.
