Who you are
- 1+ years industry experience designing, building and supporting generic systems for large scale data analytics and deep learning in production
- Experience building large scale distributed fault tolerant services
- Experience building generalizable APIs and domain specific languages
- Excellent understanding of low level operating systems concepts including multi-threading, memory management, networking and storage, performance and scale
- Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
- Systems programming skills including multi-threading, concurrency, etc. Fluency in C++ is preferred
- Track record of identifying and implementing creative solutions
- Experience with cloud infrastructure - AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
- BS in Computer Science; Masters or PhD Preferred
- Fluency in English
What the job involves
- At Kumo, we are building a machine learning platform for data lakehouses, enabling data scientists to train powerful Graph Neural Net models directly on their relational data, with only a few lines of declarative syntax known as Predictive Query Language. The Kumo platform enables users to build models a dozen times faster, and achieve better model accuracy than traditional approaches
- Develop generic and generalizable APIs and domain specific languages for big data processing and machine learning (deep learning, graph representation learning)
- Design and implement complex, distributed platforms for storing data, and scaling parallel algorithms for deep learning workloads
- Create data storage and retrieval systems
- Pinpoint problems, instrument relevant components as needed, and ultimately implement solutions
- Ability to quickly prototype optimization solutions and analyze large/complex data
- Experience working with database systems, Query Engines or Spark codebases
- Build an industry-leading Cloud AI Platform that customers love
- Solve challenging technical problems related to security, parallel and distributed systems, programming, resource management, large-scale system maintenance, and more!

Our take
Kumo offers an AI-powered platform to help businesses tackle predictive problems, with a specific focus on graph neural networks. Founded by several AI executives from companies including Pinterest, Airbnb and LinkedIn, the company certainly has strong foundations to build on.
Kumo can be used for lots of different use cases, including new customer acquisition, customer retention, personalization, abuse detection and financial crime detection. The company has attracted considerable interest from enterprises, largely because these companies spend millions of dollars storing data, and yet are unable to effectively leverage most of it due to the time, effort, and skill required.
Having brought in series B funding in 2022, the company is moving to bring its AI technology to more companies, whilst investing in R&D efforts to expand its platform and services. Lately, developments have included the announcement that Kumo can now run deep learning directly in the Data Cloud with Snowpark Container Services (eliminating data exfiltration and security concerns), as well as the ability to deploy Kumo on Databricks' Lakehouse Apps without ever leaving the ecosystem.
