Role
Who you are
- We are seeking a DevOps Engineer with expertise in managing APIs at scale, particularly with experience in API gateways like Kong
- 5+ years of experience
- Fluency in English
- Proven experience with API management tools like Kong
- Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and API security best practices (e.g., OAuth, JWT)
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their API management features
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus)
- Understanding of networking concepts
What the job involves
- In this role, you will design, implement, and optimise scalable API infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance
- You will work closely with engineering teams to streamline API management, automate processes, and maintain reliable systems in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Design, deploy, and manage API gateways (e.g., Kong) to support high-traffic, scalable applications
- Optimise API performance and reliability through load balancing, caching, and rate-limiting configurations
- Monitor and troubleshoot API traffic patterns, ensuring seamless integration and low latency
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) to manage API ecosystems
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment, testing, and scaling of API services
- Ensure high availability and fault tolerance of API systems through robust infrastructure design
- Establish and maintain monitoring and alerting for API gateways and services using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
- Analyse logs and metrics to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks or issues in API traffic
- Implement and optimise tracing solutions for end-to-end visibility of API requests
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to align API strategies with business requirements
- Define and enforce API standards, security protocols, and access controls to ensure compliance and reliability
- Provide guidance on API lifecycle management, including versioning, deprecation, and updates
