Who you are
- 10+ years designing software, with at least 3+ years leading a design team
- A track-record of demonstrating both systems thinking and exceptional craft

What the job involves
- In this role, you will lead by making, not managing. Someone who sets direction, establishes standards, and grows a team while staying close to the work
- This is a true player-coach role: you'll lead a small but talented design team while also acting as the primary designer on one of our product squads. We don't need a design politician or a gatekeeper. We need someone in builder mode — opinionated, hands-on, and excited to shape what great looks like at Coast from the inside out
- Pair closely with engineering and product to initiate and complete roadmap projects, no hand-offs
- Spot opportunities to redesign or refine key screens and flows, as well as smaller quality issues and “paper cuts” as you use Coast
- Create mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals to communicate ideas and describe their execution
- Guide and inspire fellow designers through collaborative critique of work-in-progress
- Use and improve our lightweight design system components
- Help with hiring new teammates that can elevate our team and product
Our take
In recent years, companies like Ramp, Brex, Divvy, and others have emerged to provide easier ways for companies to allow their employees to pay for job-related expenses through corporate cards. However, none of these services really work for businesses operating automobile fleets, approximately 10% of B2B card spend in the US.
That’s where Coast comes in, offering a modern card issuing expense solution specifically built for fleets. The Coast card meets the demands of fleet-specific controls, security, and visibility, contributing to preventing fraud and unauthorised use. Its platform allows fleet managers to visualise spend, block or flag transactions for review, and set their own rules for cardholders.
With back-to-back funding rounds awarded in 2024, Coast has been focused on expanding its team and the platform’s capabilities, offering a wider range of financial products - including parking, maintenance, and other on-the-road expenses on top of just fuel. Its Visa Fleet card program, which enables Coast Visa Fleet cardholders to make payments wherever Visa is accepted, makes it an attractive option in the market as fleet management continues to modernise.
