Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating complex enterprise B2B product work
- Deep experience designing data-heavy interfaces, multi-step workflows, admin tools, or developer-facing products
- Strong interaction design and visual design skills with demonstrated ability to work across both
- Hands-on experience with user research, usability testing, and measuring design outcomes
- Proficiency in Figma
- Active use of AI tools in design and prototyping workflows
- The ability to operate independently, drive decisions, and move fast without waiting for direction
- A friendly, collaborative, humble, honest, and always striving to be better attitude
- Proven work experience as a product designer on technically complex B2B or enterprise software products
- Portfolio required, demonstrating shipped product work and the thinking behind design decisions
- Experience working on small design teams or as the primary designer for a product area
- Background in a growth-stage technology company, preferably in developer tools or data. Infrastructure, analytics, security, or a related technical domain
- No specific degree required; demonstrated skill and experience are what matter
What the job involves
- As a Sr. Product Designer at CIQ, you will own the end-to-end design of complex enterprise products used by engineers, operators, and administrators at some of the most technically demanding organizations in the world
- You will work directly with product and engineering to define, design, test, and ship experiences that make powerful infrastructure more accessible without sacrificing depth or precision
- This is an individual contributor role with real ownership. You will not be executing tickets. You will be making design decisions that shape how our products work and feel, building systems that scale, and using research and data to validate what you build
- Own design from discovery through delivery across one or more product areas
- Contribute to and grow the CIQ design system
- Conduct user research and usability testing with technically sophisticated enterprise users
- Define and track design quality metrics and use them to drive iteration
- Prototype rapidly to explore and communicate ideas
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers throughout the full development cycle
- Contribute to design culture and process on a small, high-ownership team
Our take
Development of the Community Enterprise Linux Operating System (CentOS) was dropped by IBM’s RedHat in just 2020, leaving a gaping hole in the market. When CIQ’s founders swept in to offer a replacement, Rocky Linux, and a complementary support and servicing company CIQ, the demand reportedly skyrocketed - and, according to CIQ, it hasn’t subsided since.
That’s because the old CentOS was one of the principal OSs used by enterprise, cloud, VMs, and containers - Google, for example, was among one of its many enterprise users. Now Google has picked up Rocky Linux, and CIQ has consequently scooped up that major partnership too - and some healthy funding. It’s a fitting reward for a highly savvy play from the CIQ founders, picking up a tried-and-tested product that’s already achieved strong market penetration.
Besides Rocky Linux, CIQ has also developed cluster provisioning solution Warewulf, high performance computing (HPC) app containers tool Apptainer, and hybrid performance computing platform-as-a-Service Fuzzball. So it’s safe to say that CIQ has managed to skilfully manoeuvre its way into a pivotal position in the development of cutting edge high performance computing architecture. Now it will need to ensure it can capitalize on its lead.
