Role
Who you are
- You have very strong attention to detail and work through problems meticulously - we test for this in our hiring process
- You are intrinsically motivated to build with AI - open to learning and exploring AI tools and excited to design agents that automate the repetitive parts
- You are comfortable with numbers, financial modelling, and the core tools (Excel, Google Sheets). Prior experience with SQL and Salesforce is a big plus
- You possess excellent analytical skills and can communicate complex financial information clearly - in fluent English (and are comfortable with at least understanding some German)
- You thrive on ownership and are ready for both the creative and mundane work that comes with a young startup
- You have at least one prior role or internship in accounting, FP&A, controlling, or a similarly fast-paced environment (VC, startup, or equivalent), and a Bachelor's degree in a finance or quantitative discipline. Master's is a plus
- You are passionate about sustainability and climate action - and want your work to reflect that

What the job involves
- The Finance team is at the heart of SQUAKE’s financial & strategic operations. We own both the day-to-day - invoicing, tax & compliance, expense management, month-end closing - and the bigger picture: P&L and investor reporting, cash flow management, BI dashboards, and KPI monitoring. We put meaning behind the numbers
- We're looking for a Finance & Operations Associate to run our processes and help us scale as we grow
- This is a hands-on role where you'll learn the full breadth of finance operations at a fast-growing startup
- You'll take ownership of some of our core finance operations with the support of the team - and have real space to redesign how repetitive work gets done with AI
- Run the invoicing engine - manage accounts receivable and payable, issue invoices, track who to invoice and when, follow up on overdue payments, and keep the cash cycle clean
- Support month-end close and recurring finance operations - accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, payroll, and regular touchpoints with our tax accountant to keep us compliant and audit-ready
- Start automating across finance workflows - with team support and proper AI tooling, you'll design and deploy AI agents that handle the repetitive work: invoice follow-ups, inbox triage, client request routing, Salesforce-driven invoicing triggers, close checklists
- Keep our finance data trustworthy - work with Salesforce, Google Sheets, and Looker Studio to maintain the BI dashboards that already exist, and help build new ones as the team's needs grow
- Work cross-functionally - collaborate with commercial, tech, and product stakeholders to plug finance into the systems that drive the business
- Take on ad-hoc projects - investor reporting, cash flow modelling, pricing analysis, whatever the moment calls for. Startup scope: the work expands with what you can handle
Our take
With the travel industry under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, decision-makers across the sector are struggling to come to grips with the data and transparency needed to make the necessary changes. The travel industry is unique in its complexity of information layers and Squake is a start-up attempting to tackle this problem.
Squake offers a logistics and sustainability solution for travel companies via its Application Programming Interface (API) plugin. The API can integrate into existing travel logistics systems and calculate the carbon outputs for any given activity or task via analysis of national and international standards. It can then provide solutions to offset and reduce the carbon impact of the activity.
Embedded across a travel company’s booking flow, Squake’s product is customisable as per the needs of their customer. With clients including Lufthansa (from whose innovation hub it was developed), ATG Travel, and Reed & Mackay, it’s working across a range of travel-focused companies, keeping its net suitably wide. In 2023, Squake received significant VC funding and plans to use this for technology R&D, new hires, and growth in strategic markets.
