Role
Who you are
- You hold a Master's degree (CCA) , DSCG , or DCG
- You have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience acquired within an accounting firm or in a mixed firm/company environment (a plus)
- Analysis and Volume: You know how to reason and process with a large volume of data
- Technical Tools: You are perfectly comfortable with Excel or Business Intelligence (BI) tools
- Problem-Solver: You are a true problem solver . You know how to grasp a complex or uncertain subject, unblock it, and move it forward with a high degree of autonomy
- Rigour and Organisation: Rigour , organisation and attention to detail are your strengths
- Team Spirit & Autonomy: You enjoy teamwork while also knowing how to work with a high degree of autonomy
- Accounting Vision: For you, accounting is not just a pile of numbers, but a way to structure financial information
- Languages: You speak fluent French . Some knowledge of English is a plus
- Mixed experience in both consulting firms and companies is a plus!

- That's perfect timing, the Accounting team is looking for its new Senior General Accountant to actively contribute to the operational excellence and financial control of the company
- 🎯 Your Main Missions (And your skills development)
- In collaboration with the accounting team and under the supervision of the Accounting/Finance Manager, your missions will focus on mastering and improving all accounting cycles
- The First Steps (Months 1 to 4)
- Integration and Culture: Good integration at Octopus Energy, understanding of the environment, working methods and challenges of the activity
- Mastery of Tools: Quick grasp of the different tools (ERP, Slack , Notion , Asana ) and understanding of the logic, operation and links between the ERP and the Information System (IS) , as well as the associated accounting schemes
- Monthly Closings: Active participation in monthly closing activities ( analytical reviews , consistency checks, etc.)
- Documentation and Improvement: Actively contribute to the improvement of monthly closing files by proposing robust worksheets to document each cycle (fixed assets, payroll, suppliers , etc.)
- Autonomy and Impact (Month 5 and beyond)
- Closing Management: Ensure autonomy over the closing tasks entrusted to you, including the justification of all accounts for which you are responsible
- Sector Expertise: Skills development in the accounting and regulatory specificities of the energy sector
- Support and Proactivity: Act as a technical support for other team members when needed. Be proactive and enterprising in identifying issues and resolving them ( Problem Solver )
- Financial Structuring: Contributing to making accounting a true tool for structuring financial information and aiding decision-making

According to Octopus, the energy industry in the UK is ruled by a handful of complacent companies peddling fossil fuels, pricing trickery, and poor customer service. Aiming to disrupt the status quo with sustainable energy, Octopus entered the market in 2016 and now supplies energy to millions of homes in a number of countries. Octopus has made a name for itself in energy circles largely because of its “Kraken” technology platform, which it claims is able to reroute energy from renewable sources around a network far more efficiently than competitors.
Octopus further differentiates itself through its aspiration to make everything as easy as possible for consumers, from the simplicity of their bills and the fact that customers are not locked into a contract, so they can leave at any time, to offering customer service over email and social media at times that suit customers. It aims to make the eco‐friendly choice the easy choice, so all of its tariffs use 100% green electricity, while being cheaper than competitors' non-green tariffs.
Its continually creating innovative new products too. For example, Octopus Tracker, where prices change daily to guarantee you get the market rate; Agile, where the price changes every half hour to enable you to benefit from cheap electricity when the sun shines, the wind blows, and the networks are under-utilised. One of the current challenges the company faces is that its products are more complex than its competitors, given that it uses 1000x more data than traditional energy companies. Because of this, it's exploring ways to explain to customers exactly how their products work.
