Role
Who you are
- Have at least 7 years of experience working as a people operations manager at a tech company, preferably a start-up
- Experience partnering and influencing senior leaders to help drive and align their people strategy and increase business results
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization
- Act with a sense of urgency. An early-stage start-up needs to be agile to consumer and business needs, and you’re excited to move swiftly with us

- Collaborate with the organizational design, change management, people strategy, and employee engagement
- Manage all People Operations functions, such as onboarding/offboarding, benefit & compensation administration, visa-related requests, payroll, time off requests, and performance management
- You’ll work with managers and leaders to coach them on best practices and strategize to ensure we create the best employee experience
- Supervise and oversee office functions (trips, budgeting, and more)
- Serve as a coach and confidant to employees for personal growth and professional success
- Build and implement a system to support an inclusive and diverse community throughout the company
- Plan and direct events that promote a high-performing, inclusive, and mission-driven culture
- Cultivate healthy feedback within the company through meaningful surveys and developing a culture of recognition
Our take
Aalto has built out a homeowner marketplace to address the taxing nature of selling a house. The online marketplace connects homeowners to buyers in a way that helps both parties save time, stress and money.
Having a home listed on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) can usually take up to five weeks, but Aalto claims that a potential seller can list their home on its private platform in five minutes. Among the many pulls is the economic benefits that comes from cutting out the middleman - the agent. Aalto charges a 1% fee, compared to the standard agent fee of 2-2.5%, enabling sellers to make an average of $44,000 more on their home sale.
The start-up has received financial backing from investors like Sequoia, which will see expansion beyond the Bay Area into other major markets in California, and eventually across the U.S. The growth of Aalto will result in more houses on the market, which should help tackle the affordability crisis and ultimately lead to higher returns for sellers.
