Who you are

You have a flexible and creative approach to problem solving
Strong experience of over 5 years with frontend technologies such as React, TypeScript, JavaScript, etc
Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, RESTful API calls, SSE (server sent events) and core JavaScript concepts
Experience working with UI designers to implement features
Making hands-on technical contributions as a senior engineer in an agile environment
Leading iterative development initiatives from ideation through implementation
You know and care about sound engineering practices such as CI/CD, defensive programming, feature flags, and automated testing
Able to work in our Cambridge office at least 3 days a week

Desirable

Strong experience with Next.js, specifically the App Router
Experience with Tailwind CSS
Experience with i18n, such as next-intl
Experience with 3D rendering (Three.js, WebGL, etc.)
Experience with Docker development and deployment workflows
Working at an early stage start-up
Working at a robotics company
Experience with ROS pubsub systems

What the job involves

Pickle is on the hunt for a dynamic and driven Frontend Engineer to revolutionize the future of warehouse automation
As a Frontend Engineer at Pickle Robot, you will work in a small team of engineers using agile processes to build flexible, configurable software for parcel handling robots
In this position, you will be responsible for supporting the development of the user interface on our robots
UI Best Practices - You’ll join a dedicated frontend team, but have creative autonomy and technical ownership of the UI
You will need to be well versed in frontend architecture decisions and how to interact with a realtime and async backend
Hands-on Technical Contributions - Much of this role involves coding across our software stack to drive our product and engineering goals
Technical Collaboration - You'll engage in code reviews and technical design sessions, with other engineers
Process Improvement - We value iteration in both software and process, and you will be an active participant in helping us improve both technically as well as operationally
Being Glue - We’re still a relatively small team, so we’ll need you to be comfortable working across a variety of initiatives
This could include contributing to new projects, designing new features, optimizing and refactoring code, researching new technologies, or responding to production issues

Pickle Robot supplies intelligent robots to be employed in high-risk and heavy-lifting positions, to make up the worker shortage and free humans from these undesirable roles.

Pickle Robot was founded in 2018 to tackle an array of warehouse challenges, finding focus in the labor-intensive truck unloading space. Its pioneering industrial robots are built with AI and computer vision alongside advanced sensor technology, allowing them to perform intelligent unloading tasks at speed. This enables people to work quicker and smarter, whilst also avoiding the high risks of injury and fast turnaround associated with the sector.

Pickle Robot has raised significant funding to support go-to-market activities and improve its deployment capabilities. In 2024 it secured orders that represent the first stage of this commercial expansion, and the company also plans to invest in new feature sets in the near future.
