What the job involves

The People App is looking for an Associate Art Director to work closely with our Senior Creative Director and editorial leads to design static and motion content for a premium digital app
In this role you will collaborate with internal stakeholders to create elevated editorial designs and help maintain intuitive, scalable, and always-on-brand templates that support our content strategy and engage and delight our audiences
As an Associate Art Director for the People App you will be responsible for doing competitive research, designing the look and feel of various brand elements and refining and iterating on those ideas for various stakeholders
Take ownership of assigned design projects and follow established processes to ensure smooth delivery of creative assets
Work alongside the Senior Creative Director to set the People App’s overall look and feel, and ensure execution across teams is on brand
Lead the creation of thoughtfully designed digital editorial content and graphic templates that seamlessly integrate with the App’s UI
Collaborate with product design team, commerce and growth teams
Help maintain digital brand guides
50%: Design
Use requirements and stakeholder feedback to design premium visual assets, such as digital editorial static and motion designs and content templates, on an ongoing basis
30%: Collaborate with Editorial, Product, UX teams
Teach digital producers how to use static and motion templates you have created as part of a larger design system
Present design solutions and build consensus among a broad range of stakeholders
Help build and maintain a happy and creative culture within the design team
Participate in brainstorming and critique sessions that foster big picture thinking while identifying opportunities to raise the bar on the details
20%: Process Management
Keep project management tickets up to date, communicate progress, keep files organized, monitor communication from stakeholders, and meet deadlines

Formed from the 2021 acquisition of Meredith by Dotdash, Meredith Dotdash is the largest digital and print publisher in the US, encompassing over 40 brands, such as PEOPLE, Better Homes & Gardens, Verywell, Allrecipes, and many more.

The approach that built this media giant was to build websites with fast load-times and few adds. A clean site keeps readers longer, boosting its rankings in search algorithms. Ads can then be less frequent but sold at a premium, because of the readership. The company was also an early adopter of affiliate links through product reviews and articles that suggest items for purchase.

The merger of the Dotdash and Meredith teams and tech brought benefits in both directions, making Meredith sites faster and increasing story output for Dotdash. In 2023, the company launched a targeting tool named D/Cipher - that makes intent-based targeting possible at scale, without cookies. This showcases that the giant is entirely able to move at the front of the tech-evolving ad media landscape. Indeed, Meredith Dotdash is reportedly bucking the trend of news media financial downturns in 2025 with digital revenue increases of 13% year on year.
