What the job involves
- The Chief of Staff is a strategic and operational leader, supporting the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in driving company-wide planning, cross-functional coordination, and executive-level initiatives
- This role focuses on adding structure, managing processes, and ensuring alignment across teams to achieve company goals
- The Chief of Staff will also act as a key representative for the COO, guiding informed decisions, writing on their behalf, and fostering a culture of trust and collaboration
- Lead annual and quarterly planning, ensuring all teams are aligned with strategic goals
- Track and monitor goals/roadmaps to ensure alignment with Uniswap mission & strategy
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination, resolving dependencies and bottlenecks
- Collaborate with department heads to drive execution and accountability
- Be a positive force for operational excellence, improving company and cross-functional velocity through collaboration, communication and process
- Prepare the COO for policy and business development meetings, offering market and partner context, data + insights and key talking points
- Represent the COO in meetings, ensuring their voice and perspective are accurately reflected
- Draft communications and documents on behalf of the COO, maintaining consistency in tone and messaging
- Support the COO in making real-time decisions to move projects forward efficiently
- Act as a trusted partner across teams, building influence and trust through transparency, integrity, and reliability, and ensuring smooth communication and collaboration
- Serve as a neutral facilitator in discussions, ensuring balanced input and clear outcomes
- Set up, structure, and drive new commercial projects from conception to handoff or completion, such as new products or partnerships, with internal teams until realization or stead
- Make informed, real-time decisions to address challenges and keep projects on track, tactfully adjust strategies as needed to meet evolving business needs
Our take
Decentralized finance (DeFi) has quickly emerged as a “killer app” for blockchain technology. Within the past two years or so, an ecosystem of hundreds of DeFi applications has developed on Ethereum — with use cases ranging from lending to trading to insurance — bringing permissionless access to financial services to anyone with an internet connection.
Out of these applications, Uniswap - originated by Uniswap Labs - has become the most actively used. It is the largest decentralized exchange (DEX), allowing anyone to create a market for anything, rather than relying on specific teams to be market-makers in an exchange.
Despite the behemoth size of its star asset, Uniswap Labs does not make money from Uniswap, as it is just a protocol with the 0.3% fee going to reward liquidity providers. The company instead relies on adjacent ways to drive revenue, leveraging its massive influence in the DeFi space to do so.
The company has secured impressive funding, including a 2022 Series B round which represented one of the largest raises in the DeFi sector's history. Now boasting a valuation of $1.66 billion, it intends to invest in expanding operations to bring Uniswap to “even more people across the world.”
