Role
Who you are
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Located in the GTA and be in the office a minimum of TWO days a week
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- CPA designation (or equivalent) required
- Experience in startups, scale-ups, or high-growth environments
- Hands-on experience preparing for and leading financial audits
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to serve as the “source of truth” on accounting matters
- Experience in cross border trade, mainly between the US and Canada
- Experience managing multi-company, multi-currency transactions
- A love for EVs, clean energy, and the mission to decarbonize transportation
- Ability to set goals, establish KPIs, and drive accountability
- Energy, enthusiasm, and positivity
- Clear, engaging communication skills — able to simplify complex information
- Comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

What the job involves
- We are seeking a Financial Controller for a 12-month maternity leave contract to lead SWTCH’s accounting function during a critical stage of growth
- Reporting directly to the CFO, you will manage all aspects of accounting — from payroll and compliance to reporting and audit readiness. You will establish strong internal controls, oversee the company’s first external audit, and ensure accounting practices scale with the business. This role also provides the opportunity to shape the accounting team and processes to support SWTCH’s long-term growth
- Lead and manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, AR/AP, tax compliance, and inventory
- Standardize accounting processes across SWTCH’s Canadian and US entities
- Partner with the CFO on quarterly and annual reporting
- Prepare and lead the company through its financial audit
- Ensure compliance with all tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and financial partners
- Maintain robust internal controls and oversee accurate financial records
- Lead the implementation of a new ERP system to streamline and integrate financial operations
- Oversee payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing, compliance with tax and labor regulations

The costs of future-proofing buildings in preparation for clean energy can often mount up to unsavoury heights, acting as a deterrent for commercial and multi-family building owners who are considering upgrading their buildings to meet net-zero targets. SWTCH Energy is building a solution to make these upgrades more cost-effective and energy-efficient.
Though there is a wealth of companies operating within the EV and electrical charging hardware market, SWTCH stands out thanks to its use of existing electrical infrastructure to upgrade buildings and charging ports. Working with both building managers and EV drivers, the company’s SWTCH Control intelligent load management system is a monitor for multi-residential buildings that controls the energy capacity of a building, ensuring any charging needs never exceed the limit.
SWTCH’s work with building managers to improve infrastructure has garnered the company numerous clients across North America. In 2023, it partnered with software companies Sitetracker and AutoGrid to deploy its technology on the continent. Recent funding is being used to accelerate production and AI projects, as well as to scale its charger deployments across North America.
