Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SaaS revenue models, be a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with excellent communication and analytical skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA certification preferred
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in revenue accounting, preferably in the SaaS industry
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and ASC 606
- Experience with SaaS revenue models, including subscriptions, usage-based pricing, and term licenses
- Experience with ERP systems mainly NetSuite and Salesforce, ability learn and work across other accounting software
- Exceptional communication skills
- Results-oriented and demonstrated ability to identify root causes of problems, generate and evaluate creative solutions, implement fact-based resolutions optimally to drive productivity
- Excellent presentation, communication and relationship building skills
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience supervising and mentoring a team
- Experience working with and coordinating with remote teams, particularly in India, is a plus
What the job involves
- The Manager, Revenue Accounting is a key member of the Finance team responsible for overseeing all aspects of revenue recognition, including revenue accounting policies, controls, and reporting
- This role will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP and ASC 606
- Lead the revenue accounting function, including the review and analysis of revenue transactions, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and ASC 606
- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures
- Oversee the month-end close process, including revenue journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reports
- Assist with the preparation of SEC filings as and when applicable
- Research and analyze new accounting pronouncements and their impact on the company
- Ability to work cross function and supervise billing team of four to five, based in India, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Customer Success, and Legal, on revenue-related matters
- Work closely with the India-based accounting team to ensure efficient and accurate revenue processing
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with SOX requirements
- Assist with special projects and ad-hoc requests as needed
- Industry knowledge of best practices
- Partner with Deal Desk and Pricing Committee to escalate and drive decision on non-standard deals
- Drive quality into the organization through constant inspection, verification, and reconciliation
- Support FP&A in the development of forecasting revenue and reporting
- Effectively lead change management across teams through documented governance
- Be a trusted advisor across the business
Our take
Car dealerships suffer from an inefficiency problem. The paperwork and administration required to complete a sale requires dealers to manage a disjointed set of various software applications. Tekion is offering an enticing remedy - a cloud-based automative retail system that integrates the various software applications in a single infrastructure.
Competition has been strong, with rivals CDK Global and Reynolds & Reynolds offering a competitive raft of features, and benefitting from strong prior relationships with dealerships.
Tekion, however, has nevertheless secured customers for the software in 28 states - likely in part due to the efficiency of partnering with a single growing service as opposed to a disparate spread. The company is sparking interest from the right places too, with partners including GMC, Chrysler, and Chevrolet.
If the founders can leverage their experience at Tesla in improving efficiency, the system could prove a highly competitive newcomer with real potential for global spread. A reduction in processing time and paperwork is a hard proposition for dealerships to refuse.
