Who you are
- If you're excited about turning complex technical challenges into intuitive solutions at scale, join our Engineering team
- Bachelors’ or above in quantitative discipline: Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years experience of leveraging data-driven analysis to influence key business decisions, preferably in a tech company
- 5+ years directly managing data scientists, quantitative researchers, or product analysts
- Demonstrated experience building and scaling a data science function in an early stage, high growth environment
- Proven track record of being able to work independently and proactively engage with business stakeholders with minimal direction & driver measurable business impact
- Familiarity with advanced analytics methodologies and Experience with ML and predictive modeling
- Experience with increasing depth of product acquisition, engagement and monetization in a SaaS business
Desirable
- Ability to analyze large datasets and use data to inform product or business decision making, with a track record of driving directly measurable product or business impact
- Good Executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience building data driven programs and teams - experience with SQL and large datasets, deep understanding of statistical analysis & experiment design

- Our software engineering team uses a range of technologies to solve interesting problems, including Python, React, Node.js, JavaScript, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Android development

- Areas of work include Machine Learning Engineers, Infrastructure Engineer, Product SWE Frontend and Backend, Mobile Software Engineers (iOS and Android), Engineering Manager, Data Engineer, Software Development Engineer in Test, Security Engineering, Site Reliability Engineer, Technical Program Managers, Network Engineer, Datacenter Engineer, Technical Supply Chain Manager and more
- As a Senior Director of Data Science for this new division, you will exactly get to do that
- You will be able to drive the future direction of this new initiative and answer key questions about revenue/user growth
- You will build and lead a team of top-tier data scientists and be an inherent part of product org to create and scale this new business
- As a ground floor opportunity for this startup team, we need this lead to build a top-tier data-informed culture with a lot of focus on impact and execution
- You will lead the team in balancing urgency vs. the incredibly high quality bar expected by both our customers and the broader Dropbox organization, through clear and repeatable data informed approach
- You will partner closely with leadership across all functions - Product, Engineering, Design, Research, GTM, Customer success and Sales
- You will have the seat at the table for every key decision for this new initiative
- You will create a culture of strong technical ownership, resulting in highly reliable products and services at scale
- You will build and manage a team of high performing data scientists to deliver best in class analytics
- You will leverage data-driven insights to proactively identify most impactful opportunities, and inform future experimentation design and product roadmaps
Our take
Dropbox started by helping people bring together their files in one central place. The contents of these folders are synchronised to Dropbox's servers along with other computers and devices where the user has installed Dropbox, keeping the same files up-to-date across all devices.
Nowadays, there are lots of competing companies in cloud storage, and some with better distribution (e.g. Google and Apple). This explains why Dropbox is making a big push to reinvent itself after a fairly disappointing run since its IPO in 2018. The new Dropbox turns folders into "Spaces", which are collaboration hubs for teams, complete with comment streams, artificial intelligence tools and integrations into services such as Slack.
The company continues to build out its offerings through acquisitions, such as that of Formswift, bolstering its end-to-end agreement workflow capabilities. Indeed, It's very clear that Dropbox is trying to make a big move from being just a storage company. This seems to be a necessary move given the competitive nature of the industry it is operating within.
