What the job involves
- We move quickly: We ship code multiple times a day. We believe in getting new features in front of customers and iteratively improving as we learn what works and what does not

- Our web application is a single-instance, multitenant Ruby on Rails monolith supported by Postgres (database), Redis (background jobs), Memcached (Rails caching), and Kafka. We also run a Node.js webserver to support collaborative editing and real-time updates
- Our application is hosted on Amazon Web Services and architected with ECS for reproducibility and scalability. We use GitHub Actions on self-hosted runners for fast, thorough continuous integration testing
- We embrace new technologies that help us deliver a lovable product, but we also remain cognizant of the maintenance overhead a new library or platform brings. We solve the problems in front of us rather than prematurely optimizing to address issues that may never materialize
- That said, some of the largest companies in the world store a large amount of their precious strategic data in Aha! — so we do plenty of optimizing too
- We do most of our planning and collaboration in Aha! Roadmaps and built Aha! Develop so that software engineers and their teams could take advantage of those same rich features
- We use Slack and Zoom for video calls. (Email? Rarely.)
- Platform engineers at Aha! support the rest of the engineering team by developing abstractions, frameworks, and tools which help other Aha! engineers build the product
- Building developer tooling such as CI pipelines, local and staging environments, and helpful CLI tools
- Building monitoring and observability pipelines to ensure we provide highly reliable service
- Building infrastructure services that Aha! product developers can use
- Listening to product developers' pain points and capturing ideas for a more pleasant development experience
- Contributing to the success of the team via code reviews and collaboration

Product managers and company builders have been somewhat left out regarding the collaborative and visual tools normalised in most work areas. Seeing a gap in the market, Aha! was founded to help product builders create specialised product development software, empowering them to transition from discovery to delivery seamlessly. Aha! offers a suite of product roadmap and marketing planning software, allowing teams to set strategies, capture customer ideas, create visual roadmaps, and manage marketing programs. Its suite includes Aha! Roadmaps, Aha! Discovery, Aha! Ideas, Aha! Whiteboards, Aha! Knowledge, Aha! Teams and Aha! Develop. It's Aha! Knowledge training programmes help product teams gain expertise and develop new templates for products.
Although one of the first movers in the product development software space, Aha! doesn't lack competitors, with larger firms offering powerful but less product-focused solutions. However Aha! stands out for its position as one of the best-rated remote companies to work for, its customer service and the frictionless customisation of its workflows, allowing its platform to be used for any product development methodology imaginable. This has led to its use by more than 1 million product builders from leading tech and software companies.
Aha!'s business model is unusual in the tech startup scene in that its founders have eschewed the venture capital model owing to the pressures rapid scaling places on staff. Instead, it is an entirely bootstrapped business which has steadily grown into a profitable venture, more than doubling its revenue between 2018 and 2022.
