Who you are
- We're looking for engineers who are excited about solving complex problems and adaptable to working across different product areas as the business evolves
- A high-performing engineer with 4+ years of experience delivering end-to-end solutions that drive business growth
- You thrive in a quickly growing environment and are excited to lead business-critical projects to unlock new capabilities
- You have experience testing, monitoring, and running production software systems and are focused on continuing to grow your skills
- You are a talented programmer with React and Ruby on Rails experience (or similar tech stack experience like Python/Django or Javascript/Node.js with strong desire to learn Ruby on Rails) and are excited about further developing your craft and quality of work
- You have a passion for identifying gaps in team processes or execution and love driving impactful improvements
- You're adaptable and open to working on different types of problems, from revenue systems to customer-facing features to infrastructure
- Past experience in e-commerce, consumer growth marketing, adtech, or marketplace systems is a plus but not required
- You pay close attention to detail

- Babylist is hiring Software Engineer III's to join our engineering organization
- You'll work on systems that power a $1B+ GMV marketplace, serving over 700k families and over 10 million users annually
- Our engineering teams build everything from advertising platforms and commerce tools to registry systems and health products
- Revenue & Growth: Build the systems that drive Babylist's business forward. Work on advertising partnerships with major brands, commerce features that convert browsers into buyers, lifecycle marketing campaigns that engage millions of users, and growth experiments that unlock new revenue streams. Your work directly impacts GMV and company growth
- Product & Experience: Create the tools that families rely on during one of life's biggest transitions. Design and build registry systems that help expecting parents organize their needs, shopping flows that make discovery delightful, health product experiences that support new parents, and customer-facing features used by over 700k + families annually. You'll see real people benefit from what you build
- Platform & Infrastructure: Strengthen the foundation that powers everything at Babylist. Develop developer tools that make your teammates more productive, core services that ensure reliability at scale, monitoring systems that keep us ahead of issues, and foundational systems that enable the company to move faster. Your contributions multiply the impact of every engineer
- Provide leadership around process, tooling, systems, and software architecture. We benefit from more knowledge and learning how others solve problems. You will feel excited to bring in new ways of solving problems
- Improve and help maintain existing systems. Friction in the development process slows us down and has a large opportunity cost. You relish the opportunity to improve test coverage and delete thousands of lines of code
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and data teams to design, implement, and deploy systems that support our growing business
- Make architectural decisions that balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
- Work in a close, supportive team solving real-world engineering challenges and making technical decisions that move projects forward
- Mentor other team members through design and architecture planning, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions
- At Babylist, Software Engineer III’s participate in our Squad Shuffle Rotation Program—a structured way to accelerate your career growth
- Every six months, we evaluate rotation opportunities that allow you to work across different teams and problem domains
- When you rotate, you'll join a new team for at least 6-12 months, gaining experience in new areas of the business including several different product teams, operational systems, or infrastructure
- These rotations help you build adaptability, collaborate with diverse teams, and demonstrate impact across multiple contexts—all critical skills for advancing your career
- Not everyone rotates every cycle; decisions are made thoughtfully based on your growth trajectory and team needs. Transitions include 30-day onboarding plans and dedicated manager support to set you up for success

- Any indication of third-party assistance or AI-generated responses will result in immediate disqualification. We may also verify educational credentials through third-party sources—providing false or misleading information will result in removal from consideration
Our take
Since its 2011 launch, Babylist has grown into one of the most highly rated baby registries in the US. The difference it offers is that it allows users to include products from any store in their registries. On top of this, the company’s model also focuses heavily on creating informational content, which allows it to generate ad revenue while building customer loyalty.
Originally scaled with fairly low venture funding, Babylist claims half of new parents in the US now use its services. This, given that the baby products industry is worth close to $90 billion, shows the immense growth of the company as well as speaking to the impact it has made in the space.
Babylist has seen strong funding in the past which fuelled projects such as the launch of virtual showrooms, and facilitated the company's expansion further into the market. The company acquired Expectful, a health and wellness tool, in 2023 with the long-term vision to combine the companies into a larger health and wellness media property, that can help people navigate all parts of parenthood from fertility to diapers.
