- Degree in Computer Science (or related field)
- 3+ years experience as a software engineer (Ruby, Python, or GoLang)
- 3+ years experience in maintaining and observing production customer facing environments in AWS or Azure
- 3+ Experience as incident commander or response team member of an outages in production
- Experience with containers and container orchestration
- Understanding of the basic concepts of infrastructure behind a micro-service architecture, REST APIs, and asynchronous queueing models
- Strong collaboration, documentation, communication, and project management skills
- Experience driving platform adoption with various product engineering teams, guided by a self-service and product-first approach
- A passion for customer-centricity and building relationships with other teams
- Unwavering commitment to operational security and best practices
What the job involves
- As a Site Reliability Engineer II on the Platform team, you will uncover issues and technical challenges across the engineering teams and platforms, and develop creative solutions to resolve them
- You will strive towards the right balance between enforcing standardization and accommodating uniqueness
- The person in this role will have a chance to demonstrate a degree of autonomy with their work and help with complex support requests and have an impact across engineering
- Collaborate, drive, and execute architectural discussions with cross-functional teams
- Influence cross team projects and SREs technical roadmap to enable engineering and help Checkr customers
- Design, build, ship, and maintain the core software libraries, tools, and patterns used by all of Checkr’s engineering teams
- Troubleshoot complex production issues across the stack, with respect to performance, availability, and data quality
- Provide consultation and feedback across teams to ensure we are building highly reliable systems
- Present detailed technical information and benefits of the Checkr platform to a wide array of customers, including operations, developers, technical architects, and executives
Our take
Checkr addresses the unpleasant and time consuming process of background checks so that companies using on-demand employees can make safer, more informed hiring decisions in less time. Background checks are a critical part of the hiring process, and CEO Daniel Yannisse noticed that they were painfully slow, resulting in loss of work for candidates and productivity downturns for employers.
Before Checkr entered the market in 2014 with its innovative AI technology and a solid $50m in venture capital funding, companies were waiting upwards of two weeks for their checks. Checkr substantially reduces this time frame and has grown to receive a $5 billion valuation.
Checkr has accelerated growth by making several highly advantageous acquisitions of competitor companies GoodHire and Inflection. As the world of work embraces diversity and inclusion, the company announced an end-to-end service for candidates wishing to expunge their criminal records, furthering the company’s ‘fair chance’ mission and clearing 1000s of candidates for free since 2021. New products launched at the end of 2023 include Checkr Pay (providing access to payment right after a shift) and Checkr Onboard (unified onboarding processes), exemplifying how Checkr is keeping pace with a rapidly changing, flexible, and mobile-first workforce.
