Who you are

Experience being responsible for production systems in a post-Seed stage technology startup
Experience hiring / managing 1 or more developers/team members
Knowledgeable in security / personal data protection principles and GDPR
Experience leading agile development teams, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement
Experience in Product Discovery including problem definition and ideation
Strong technical background with proficiency in including but not limited to Javascript, Python, PHP, SQL
Experience of any of the following: e-commerce/manufacturing/medical industry trends and challenges would be advantageous
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
Experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD through tools like Github Actions, AWS CDK, CircleCI etc
Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure including AWS, containerisation, monitoring and observability
Experience working with 3rd party services and APIs and integration strategies
Ability to communicate well, giving proactive feedback to peers and team matched with essential organisation skills

What the job involves

You will play an essential part in a newly created technology function as the first full time development hire and bringing our existing tech delivery in-house
As our Head of Technology, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful business outcomes with the support of a lean, high-performing team
Your expertise will drive the success of our technology initiatives and enable us to deliver our ambitious vision
Technical Leadership: Drive the quality of our software products and ensure we are building for scalability and maintainability moving forward
Architecture and Design: Cubitts is vertically integrated with a wide variety of requirements from different areas of the business. It will be your role to drive build vs. buy decisions and pragmatic architectural design decisions
Product Discovery and Delivery: You will play an active role in both discovery and delivery, driving decisions on prioritisation, scope and implementation approach. This will involve having an open dialogue with internal users, understanding customer behaviour and the impact that changes (big and small) may have on revenue and day-to-day operations
Data Engineering: Ensuring we have the right data in the right place at the right time is essential in a vertically integrated business operating across a number of systems. You will be responsible for defining where data is mastered and how it flows across different systems

Cubitts was founded in 2012, offering bespoke and made-to-measure high-quality sunglasses and eyewear. Its online and brick-and-mortar stores offer a wide range of glasses at affordable prices, as well as bespoke spectacle-making courses and full eye examinations.

2/3 of the population wear glasses, half every day, but the glasses industry hasn't evolved accordingly over the past few hundred years, with products and standards not improving. Cubitts aims to create a spectacle-buying experience that people love to transform the industry for the better.

Cubitts offers spectacles for life, with lifetime adjustments and reglazing, frames made the traditional way so that they outlast their users, using only the finest materials (and recycled waste), as well as allowing users to create a one-off frame to customers' exact colour choices and exact measurements.
