FlowFuse, formerly FlowForge, was founded by Nick O'Leary and ZJ van de Weg using Node-RED software to create a platform for low-code development. Node-RED primarily allows Internet of Things (IoT) developers to swiftly build applications while addressing all of their peripheral devices and tasks at the same time. A key challenge facing Node-RED users is the time and resources needed to produce projects beyond small-scale prototypes.
FlowFuse seeks to remedy this issue by providing a service platform to help Node-RED projects run at scale. FlowFuse enables low-code developers’ swift integration of their projects with a UI that allows users to manage everything from a single pane. Other services FlowFuse provides are hosting, audit logging, security, and role-based access control.
Using low-code tool Node-RED affords FlowFuse a unique place in the industry. As many of the start-up’s more established competitors provide tools for manual backend development, Node-RED may have an edge when it comes to user accessibility. A challenge FlowFuse might face will be handling more specialized coding requirements that a pre-packaged and simplified low-code environment may struggle with.
