Role
Who you are
- You have 5-8 years of product management experience, with a strong focus on data science, machine learning, and recommendation systems
- You embody our Stitch Fix values—bright, kind, and motivated by challenge—and approach every problem with curiosity, accountability, and a desire to learn
- You possess a deep understanding of data analytics and experience collaborating with Data Science and Engineering teams on ML/AI-powered systems or recommendation platforms

What the job involves
- Stitch Fix is transforming how people discover, express, and evolve their personal style — powered by the intersection of human creativity and intelligent algorithms
- Outfitting is at the heart of this transformation. As our Product Manager for Outfitting & Evolved Algorithms, you’ll shape how we bring outfits to life, integrate generative and agentic AI capabilities into our algorithms, and redefine how clients experience style in a personalized, dynamic, and expressive way
- You’ll lead the vision, strategy, and execution for the next generation of our outfitting platform — one that seamlessly combines human intuition, trend understanding, and machine learning
- You’ll also guide the evolution of our client profile ecosystem, ensuring we continuously learn, adapt, and refine each client’s style story with minimal friction
- This role sits within the Algorithms Organization, working closely with partners across Engineering, Data Science, Merchandising, and Client Experience Product to deliver measurable client and business impact through algorithmic innovation
- Develop a bold vision and roadmap for the future of outfitting — leveraging Stitch Fix’s unique strengths in personalization, inventory, and style expertise
- Evolve our Outfitting Platform to incorporate generative and agentic AI capabilities across Merch, Style, and Trend, creating dynamic, client-relevant outfits at scale
- Partner with Design, Data Science, and Engineering to modernize our outfitting platform architecture for speed, configurability, and creative range
- Define success metrics that tie directly to client delight, engagement, and conversion
- Design seamless, low-friction ways to update and evolve client preferences — reducing manual data capture and ensuring our models stay attuned to each client’s style
- Partner with Onboarding, Vision AI, and CRM teams to connect data capture to client experiences, ensuring preferences, feedback, and outfits stay in sync
- Enable downstream algorithmic systems to act on real-time client signals for improved personalization accuracy
- Define the north star vision for how Stitch Fix’s next-generation algorithms evolve — blending classical ML with generative, agentic, and trend-aware systems
- Translate the company’s Evolved Algos Charter into concrete product capabilities and executional priorities
- Serve as a bridge between algorithmic innovation and client impact, ensuring the work translates into tangible business and user value
- Partner closely with Merchandising, Creative, and Styling to ensure our outfit generation systems reflect brand, aesthetic, and trend sensibility
- Work with AI Platform, Engineering, and Data Science to deliver scalable infrastructure that powers millions of personalized outfit experiences
- Act as the voice of the client and stylist, ensuring every algorithmic decision ladders up to better client outcomes
- Develop and execute a product strategy that enhances our best-in-class understanding of client fashion taste and styling preferences, personalization, and the ability to deliver exceptional styling experiences. This includes leveraging cutting-edge Gen AI capabilities to drive improvements in our recommendation systems
- Identify and articulate clear, strategic problem statements, translating complex business challenges into focused opportunities that push the boundaries of personalization and client satisfaction
- Collaborate with Data Science, Engineering, and Design to leverage cutting-edge AI capabilities, driving enhancements in our recommendation systems to create experiences where clients discover styles they love, fit perfectly, and help them always look—and feel—their best
- Lead with influence, not just authority, fostering a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives come together to solve complex challenges and build exceptional products
- Shape the future of AI-driven personalization at Stitch Fix, with the opportunity to take on high-visibility projects and grow into a key leadership role
- Continuously learn and gather feedback from clients, iterating on our style quiz, profile updates, and integrating these learnings into both the Fix and Freestyle experiences
- Improve item recommendations and surfacing, ensuring clients receive personalized, high-quality recommendations that align with their preferences and style needs
Our take
Shopping online for clothes is not always a fun experience. Finding clothes you like is only half the battle. Sizing guides and return policies seem to have been designed to be challenging to understand, and can also vary wildly from company to company.
Stitchfix sets out to change this by making online clothes shopping personalized and hassle-free. Customers take a survey on their personal tastes, and pay a one-off fee for a stylist, to receive a box of 5 personalized items. Then, they simply pay for any items they keep, or return what they don't want free of charge. The stylists fee is deducted from the first purchase and if they keep all 5 items, they receive a discount.
Stitchfix's unique blend of technology, and human touch in styling, allows the company to deliver its personalized experience at scale, with its growing data sets putting them in a great place to predict consumer trends and preferences. Unfortunately, the company has been hit hard by the current economic climate - cutting staff back in June 2022 as well as again in early 2023. Only time will tell if this once exciting brand will be able to bounce back from this bump in the road and find success again in the future.
