Role
Who you are
- Chartered Accountant with 7-10 years of experience in financial control in the financial services sector
- Strong technical understanding of IFRS (in particular IFRS9 and IFRS16) with proven track record of first time adoption of standards
- Ability to lead, develop and nurture a team
- Experience with accounting judgements and creating accounting policy papers
- Proficiency in financial software - ideally NetSuite and Concur
- Experience in automation, process improvement and software implementation
- Highly comfortable with large, complex data sets and SQL
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
- Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with risk management processes
What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Financial Controller to lead our financial reporting and financial operations teams
- The Financial Controller will oversee the day to day financial operations of Capital on Tap, ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping, robust financial controls and effective risk management
- This role will report directly to the Finance Director and will work closely with many other internal departments such as operations and credit risk
- You will be responsible for the end to end reporting cycle and ensuring timely delivery of financial information to management to support decision making
- You will also be responsible for developing a robust control framework across Financial Control, in particular ensuring key risks are tracked and mitigated, processes are documented and compliance with external deadlines is maintained
- You will also be responsible for a number of exciting projects across Finance which will give you the opportunity to re-design processes and embrace automation
- Finally you will be a senior leader within Finance and responsible for improving engagement within the team and ensuring the development and wellbeing of 6 FTE
- Manage and maintain the general ledger and accounts payable processes
- Ensure accurate recording and classification of financial transactions in compliance with IFRS
- Oversee month-end and year-end processes and ensure timely delivery of financial information
- Ensure accounting judgement papers are up to date
- Lead the year-end audit being the key person for maintaining relationship with auditors
- Further develop and implement robust financial control framework
- Monitor compliance with accounting standards and tax rules
- Review reconciliations and monthly attestations of balance sheet accounts
- Ensure tax reporting is complete and accurate and submitted on time
- Identify, assess and mitigate operational and fraud risks
- Ensure all finance processes are documented and up to date
- Develop and maintain risk management policies and procedures
- Liaise with the second line risk team to ensure risks are correctly scored and risk attestations are updated and reviewed in a timely manner
- Process automation project to cover all Financial Control Processes
- Responsible for the day to day management and development of 6 FTE
- Responsible for supporting FTE with development including support throughout their professional qualifications
- Responsible for planning deliverables to manage team efficiency
- Responsible for the team’s wellbeing and improving engagement across the Financial Control team
