Who you are
- 10+ years of progressive experience in recruiting and 4+ years experience in a leadership or management position
- Previous experience recruiting for research related roles or managing a recruiting team responsible for research hiring
- Demonstrable success leading strategy and driving execution to hire top-tier talent for a premier tech company and/or high-growth startup, including hiring talent in extremely niche talent markets
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions
- A proactive leader with a strong track record in building high-functioning recruiting organizations
- Exemplary analytical, verbal / written communication, and interpersonal skills
What the job involves
- As Recruiting Manager, you will lead recruiting strategy for the Research team of OpenAI
- Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing effective recruiting strategies, building strong relationships with research and engineering professionals, and ensuring a seamless hiring process from start to finish
- You will work across our Research teams supporting them at all levels of hiring. You will lead and grow a high-performing team of sourcers and recruiters to recruit and close the extraordinary talent we need to fulfill our mission
- We are looking for a seasoned leader who will establish the recruiting vision and strategy for our next growth stage and see them through to exemplary execution
- The ideal candidate will combine extensive experience managing recruitment activities for high-performing tech organizations
- You will play a key role in championing those values and acting as a culture carrier and change agent, inspiring confidence, motivation, and engagement from the organization and developing strong collaborative relationships to drive extraordinary results
- Craft the strategy and visions for recruitment activities. You will be responsible for optimizing the organization and practices of the team to drive results. You’ll define and iterate on recruiting goals and key performance indicators
- Manage a team of recruiters and sourcers building a best-in-class team that maintains a culture of absurdly high performance, growth mindset, radical ownership, collaboration, and inclusion that will enable our brilliant team to do their best work
- Partner with executives and hiring managers to develop a deep understanding of our business's current and future hiring needs and develop strategies to fulfill those needs
- Be a recruiting advisor and partner to the leadership team and be an essential driver of recruiting excellence across the organization
- Propose and run experiments to find novel techniques and solutions for challenging recruiting problems
- Ensure that we offer a best-in-class candidate experience
Our take
OpenAI aims to research and deploy AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) that is safe, controllable and beneficial to all of humanity. The company began its mission by developing an API that can solve language-based tasks, such as answering written questions or pulling up relevant documents based on a query.
Following the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, which gained more than 1 million users in its first 5 days and is already worth billions, OpenAI announced a paid version named ChatGPT Plus which will be launched in the US first.
It is worth noting that OpenAI is not without controversy. Its products have sparked conversations regarding the morals and implications of AI tools, and recent investigations have uncovered misalignments between the company's public commitments and its alleged operations behind closed doors.
Whilst AI applications can be found in a vast variety of tech startups, this generally consists of the automation of algorithmic tasks such as data analysis and organization. OpenAI’s approach to designing true human-like artificial intelligence is futuristic, but with support from its high-profile partners (such as Microsoft), an annualised revenue reported at $ 2 billion in 2023, and the clear success of its products have the company well set to continue bringing advanced AI to the public.
