Who you are

- A structured problem-solver who can balance data, intuition, and speed
- 5+ years of experience in growth, product, or performance marketing, ideally in a fast-paced, product-led tech company
- Deeply analytical - comfortable querying data in SQL and working with experimentation frameworks
- Strong understanding of growth loops, funnel optimisation, and conversion mechanics
- Excellent communicator who can drive alignment across technical and non-technical teams
- Strategic thinker who can zoom out to long-term growth bets while executing today’s experiments
- Experience influencing roadmaps and resourcing decisions based on growth opportunities
- A bias for action and a love for fast iteration
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a sharp, strategic Growth Lead to own and accelerate the next phase of Cleo’s growth. Sitting at the intersection of product, data, and marketing, you’ll use experimentation, conversion optimisation, and user insight to turn Cleo’s product and marketing funnels into high-performing growth engines
- This role is focused on the growth pillar; conversion and future areas for development - driving how users discover, try, and activate Cleo’s core experiences - and on shaping the long-term growth roadmap to unlock new areas to impact revenue and unit economics
- You’ll partner closely with PMs, engineers, analysts and marketers to identify the biggest levers for growth, prioritise them ruthlessly, and deliver measurable impact
- Drive Growth’s discovery roadmap: define and prioritise the initiatives that move our key business metrics - signups, activation, conversion, and monetisation beyond what is in our current scope
- Lead experimentation: run A/B tests and rapid experiments across acquisition, onboarding, and conversion flows to unlock step-change improvements
- Identify and size opportunities: use data and research to uncover bottlenecks, map user journeys, and quantify the impact of potential solutions
- Drive cross-functional execution: work with engineering, product, and marketing to deliver growth initiatives end-to-end, from idea to impact
- Optimise conversion flows: improve how users move through the funnel - from awareness and signup through to activation and first value. A sharp view of what design works for conversion is vital
- Shape long-term growth strategy: influence product and platform decisions that expand Cleo’s reach, user base, and monetisation over time
- Champion data-informed decision making: define success metrics, instrument experiments, and translate results into actionable insights
- Collaborate across the growth ecosystem: partner with performance marketing, lifecycle, and brand to ensure a consistent and compounding growth strategy
Our take
People are increasingly not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, which have proven slow to react to the needs of younger consumers who expect more from their everyday experiences.
Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers. And after a successful year in the US its now eyeing up a return to the UK.
Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.
Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
