Role
Who you are
- Experience coding in the same languages as our current tech stack; Ruby/Rails/Python/AWS/Postgres
- Tech hiring and project management, building and leading high-performing teams
- Experience managing offshore development resources
- System architecture & data analysis, ensuring technical robustness and security
- Operational and support systems, overseeing day-to-day technical operations
- Cyber security best practices, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation
- Commercial negotiations, particularly with external development agencies and offshore resources
- Startup & enterprise application development, with a focus on scaling technical operations
- Financial services experience, particularly working within a regulated environment

What the job involves
- Own and evolve Bolt Cover’s technical roadmap, ensuring scalability, security, and performance
- Define and execute a technical resource strategy, balancing internal development with offshore/onshore external resources
- Evaluate, select, and manage external development agencies and offshore teams as needed
- Establish and enforce best practices in software development, infrastructure management, and security compliance
- Maintain oversight of key operational and support systems, ensuring seamless integration and performance monitoring
- Ensure daily system integrity by checking policy counts, revenue figures, and synchronisation processes
- Oversee infrastructure monitoring, including AWS budget and backup checks, WAF monitoring, and server capacity reviews
- Perform regular security and compliance checks, including PEN tests, AWS and GitHub user access reviews, and subdomain testing
- Review pull requests, tickets, and order pulling scripts, ensuring development aligns with business goals
- Conduct daily developer check-ins to identify and address technical roadblocks
- Track development progress against quarterly roadmaps, ensuring deliverables remain on schedule
- Report on key system and technical challenges during weekly check-ins with Senior Leadership
- Support and empower our lead engineer, ensuring they have the autonomy and guidance needed to run projects efficiently
- Oversee technical specifications and documentation, ensuring clarity and alignment with business goals
- Coach and mentor developers to help them level up their skills and contribute effectively
- Contribute to key development projects where necessary, setting high technical standards
- Conduct code reviews, technical troubleshooting, and architecture decisions to maintain a high-quality codebase
- Ensure our API and platform integrations remain robust and easy to maintain
