Who you are

5+ years of experience as a software engineer
2+ years of experience in the area of developer tooling
Experience in 1 or more programming languages among Node.js, .NET, Java, Go, Python, PHP and Ruby
An interest in working with multiple programming languages

What the job involves

In this role, you’ll have an opportunity to shape the experience of developers using Stripe SDKs that power over 80% of the payment volume at Stripe
Collaborate with various Stripe teams to release their APIs in the SDKs
Design and implement new Stripe API patterns
Help streamline the API authoring process at Stripe
Improve the efficiency of SDK release process
Support our users reaching out to us on the open source GitHub repositories for our SDKs
Add support for new language features in SDKs
Help lead Stripe's API design process, providing guidance to product teams as they seek to produce powerful and intuitive abstractions that are surfaced through our SDKs
Plan and work towards a future where we open source parts of our code generation framework to make it easier for third party Stripe SDK owners to maintain their libraries
Influence the team’s strategy and roadmap through feedback-driven proposals, and direct engagement with our developer community on GitHub and other channels

Our take

Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payment option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.

More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.

To further expand its position, the company is extending its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil, Japan and India. It is also partnering with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that is monetising OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhancing Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forward with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
