Who you are
- 10+ years of working with complex datasets from various sources, including product, marketing, sales, finance, operations, and customer acquisition
- 4+ years of managing Analytics Engineering teams or equivalent roles
- Ability to excel in both people management and individual contributor roles
- Significant experience in data modeling and architecture within production environments, particularly using Redshift, DataBricks, or Snowflake
- Expertise in designing, building, and deploying production data pipelines and ETLs using Python, with a preference for Airflow and dbt
- Extensive knowledge of relational databases and familiarity with modern data stack technologies
- Proven ability to ensure data integrity and accuracy through regular audits, issue resolution, and implementation of data governance best practices
- Experience in business intelligence and data visualization tools, such as Tableau
- Exceptional SQL skills are critical

- You'll collaborate closely with an established team of experienced leaders in Engineering, Product, Design, Data Science, Revenue, Marketing, and Sales
- Gusto is currently seeking an experienced Analytics Engineering Manager to join our team
- As an Analytics Engineering Manager, you'll play a crucial role in driving our Growth and Expansion efforts by developing and maintaining the foundational data infrastructure
- You'll collaborate with stakeholders and data professionals to build and maintain data products that empower users across the organization to explore and answer data-related questions
- Your responsibilities will include managing end-to-end data pipelines, focusing on transformation, design, documentation, and user-friendliness
- Ultimately, your work will factor into ensuring our customers maximize the value from our product offerings
- Design and implement Gusto's production data warehouse, defining a set of schemas to enhance data analysis for Growth and Expansion. Develop use-case-specific data tables by skillfully combining and engineering essential elements across diverse data domains
- Construct robust data ingestion pipelines from both internal and external sources, including APIs, ensuring structural integrity, adherence to data quality standards, and establishing traceability from the consumption layer back to the raw data layer
- Empower users throughout the organization to independently explore and answer data-related queries using well-organized and intuitive datasets
- Lead Quality Assurance and Data Quality initiatives to streamline development timelines, minimize errors, and uphold the reliability of analytical products. Implement monitoring mechanisms for crucial tables
- Optimize data warehousing processes by refining naming conventions, enhancing data modeling, and implementing best practices for data quality testing
- Offer recommendations to enhance the reliability, user-friendliness, and performance of the Data Team's technical infrastructure
- Share knowledge, provide mentorship, and ensure your team adheres to best practices

The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 400,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. And in 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that has seen it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to expand its platform, most recently partnering with Parafin to launch a payroll line of credit for small businesses. With a growing suite of services and a clear focus on supporting small businesses through changing economic conditions, Gusto looks set to sustain its momentum and further strengthen its position in the HR and payroll technology market.
