Who you are
- Experience leading content and SEO/GEO teams
- 10+ years in journalism or content marketing, ideally within insurance, personal finance, tech and/or business reporting/editing
- Advanced writing skills and a keen understanding of developing effective messaging
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or related field
- Ability to handle the fast pace of a startup while working effectively within the constraints of a regulated industry
- Evangelist for clear headings, bullet points, and summaries that help AI models surface our expertise
- Knows how to dive deep to help optimize for the 13+ states where Kin operates so those homeowners can find locally relevant information to help them make decisions about their home and finances
- Strong editorial judgment and enough technical fluency to see where organic content is headed, especially with AI-driven search
- Experienced in using AI to make teams more effective and have a thoughtful point of view on how it should (and shouldn’t) be applied
- Deeply curious about where great, high-performing content is being made today and what those teams are doing differently in the evolving SEO/GEO landscape
- Strong collaboration, prioritization, and project management skills with high attention to detail
- A firm understanding of Google's Helpful Content and Your Money or Your Life Guidelines and how to optimize for that
- Growth mindset, willing to roll up sleeves with the belief that the buck stops with you
- Familiarity with CMS systems and analytics tools
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Manager - Content and Organic Search to create high-impact content that positions Kin as an authority homeowners trust for insight and advice
- You find and fill information gaps for homeowners in need of advice, data, and straightforward information about home insurance, car insurance, home loans and more homeowner-relevant topics. This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership opportunity to elevate our content and drive value for homeowners
- You will ensure we are creating content that provides clear, definitive, structured answers to common homeowner questions. You’ll own the strategy and execution for how Kin content surfaces when users search for across platforms like Google, Youtube and conversational engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity
- You’ll partner closely with product, data, design, and engineering to design search-friendly experiences, scalable systems, and content structures and formats that amplify discoverability and conversion
- Supporting you is a small team made up of a skilled senior editor, a copywriter, an SEO leader, and many freelance writers. You’ll collaborate with marketing and cross-functional stakeholders and report to the Senior Director of External Communications
- Own the end-to-end content strategy, spanning SEO, awareness content, mid-funnel conversion content, and product-related narratives
- Take the raw ingredients we already have — a content library, brand voice, data, subject-matter experts in home and auto insurance and home loans, and a brand committed to simple language — and turn them into a cohesive content engine that educates, informs, and shapes how people think about protecting their home
- Be hands-on with content execution while leading and mentoring a small, high-output team made up of our senior editor, copywriter, and our senior SEO manager
- Write or edit, and ship high-impact content including:
- SEO pillar pages, cluster articles, and comparison content
- Data journalism-style storytelling, and long-form guides
- One-pagers, briefs, and product explainers
- Work closely with SEO, Product, and Growth Marketing to align content with keyword intent, funnel stages, and conversion goals
- Obsess about measurement and iteration, using performance data to continuously optimize content for traffic quality, engagement, and pipeline impact
- Partner with legal to ensure accurate, compliant content
- Support growth marketing and internal communications with copy edit/review needs
- Coordinate with internal marketing communications partners, including organic and paid channel owners, to create and optimize content calendars, keying in upon promotion-worthy content and topic ideas
- Partner with the design team, employer brand, and other internal partners to strengthen our brand voice and ensure cohesive messaging across channels, ultimately driving preference and conversion
- Publish content on our website and provide actionable feedback on opportunities to improve our CMS and unlock scale
- Build and refine processes to ensure content on kin.com is up-to-date, accurate, and impactful
- Leverage AI tools like Gemini and ChatGPT to drive team efficiencies
- In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward
- Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve
- By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make
- Kin shows up at the top of relevant organic search and question results on Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude
- You are running the content operation across the full funnel. You’ve refined Kin’s editorial and SEO/GEO strategy, overseeing production and organic search for all formats, grown our audience, and tied your work to clear business outcomes
- You’ve run some tests that have failed and some that have succeeded. You’ve scaled what performs
- You’ve conceived and published multiple data studies that have earned major media coverage
- You’ve improved Kin’s share-of-voice in AI search results
- You are the go-to expert on Kin web content and organic search performance and have relationships across the company that help make that content successful

Our take
The setup process for home insurance can be difficult and time-consuming, particularly for complex and risky properties. Legacy insurance providers rely on users and brokers to insert uniform data, an approach that is not very accurate considering the idiosyncrasies of each individual property.
Kin Insurance works directly with consumers to provide bespoke and affordable home insurance. The company's software imports thousands of variables based on third-party data in order to provide a more personalized approach to home insurance. Data is also collected from aerial and satellite imagery, government records, and building permits to ensure a house is covered from localized threats such as wildfire, hurricanes and other natural disasters.
