Who you are
- Communication - You'll be communicating with both internal and external stakeholders a lot of the time, so having great communication is a must!
- Attention to Detail - From completing procurements to shipping high value satellites globally, you will need to show diligence in all areas and hence having great attention to detail is a must
- Fast paced - As you will be responsible for purchasing products and services with a fast turn around, you’ll know how to keep cool under these circumstances while still delivering to a high standard
- A proactive self-starter - There’s an immense need for being proactive and juggling different tasks, so having the right attitude to work is really important
- Independence - At times, we’ll need you to take initiative and work independently. Of course, we’ll always be around to support you but we encourage you to be a driving force within your team!
- Analytical - You’ll be an analytical thinker who’s able to communicate metrics, including costs and delivery timelines effectively
- Health & Safety - You'll have strong applied knowledge of health & safety ensuring we stay compliant. NEBOSH certifications would be a big advantage but not essential!
- Tech Savvy - You’ll need to be comfortable working in Word, Excel and PowerPoint - even better if you’re familiar with G-Suite
What the job involves
- This is a very active role where no 2 days are the same!
- You will be an integral part of the business, making sure our office runs productively, safely and smoothly, becoming the “go to” contact and being responsible for its maintenance and improvement
- This will include co-ordinating and monitoring health and safety compliance, first aid and fire warden training, supporting team days and activities to keep our Open Cosmonauts motivated and making sure the team has everything they need to do their jobs effectively - from technical equipment to supplies and, of course, snacks!
- The day-to-day administrative tasks will also cover working across all functions and supporting your colleagues with travel arrangements, event coordination, and being the first point of contact for any shipment that comes in and goes out of Open Cosmos
- You will organize and manage the logistics and shipments of those between company sites and also supporting in sending our satellites to launch sites
- This role is a great opportunity to join the exciting and growing sector which is the small-satellite world
Our take
Satellite data is critical in order to solve some of the world's most pressing matters, such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity. While data and precise analytical tools able to draw insights are available, the problem is they lack interoperability between platforms, and the ability to combine this data from different satellites is inaccessible.
Founded in 2015, Open Cosmos is a SpaceTech startup with the aim to simplify access to space. The company designs, manufactures and operates satellites that are part of its "Open Constellation". Meanwhile its platform, DataCosmos, makes satellite data access easier for organisations and governments, combining earth observation data from multiple sources to help with the mitigation of environmental and sustainability challenges.
Partnerships with organisations such as Innovate UK, ESA and the UK Space Agency are supporting Open Cosmos as it expands operations, growing its team and ideas. 2023 has seen the company launch a nanosatellite named MENUT that "hitched a ride" on a SpaceX rocket, pass three milestone reviews for its next nanosatellite (that combines EO technologies with an IoT radio), and sign a deal with Satellite Applications Catapult to build and launch a key demonstration satellite that will perform pole-to-pole observation of Atlantic coastal and maritime areas.
