Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering
- You have a proven track record of experience with Python as well as experience in building large-scale applications with Linux based systems
- Proven track record of building and maintaining high availability systems within a cloud-based environment (preferably within AWS)
- Comfortable in leading the technical design of projects from planning to delivery and actively contributing to all stages from architecture to implementation
- Following engineering best practices, having high-quality code standards and utilising tools to ensure that these are constantly met. (using tools for automated testing, code quality scans, performance monitoring, error/exception reporting…)
- Experience setting up CI/CD, Docker, Alerting and monitoring solutions
- Experience working with and developing applications that integrate with RBDMs directly or via SQLAlchemy
- Willingness to learn and openness to feedback
Desirable
- Experience with FastAPI or other python related API web frameworks
- Knowledge of SQLAlchemy, and experience using Alembic to manage and perform migrations
- Experience with Terraform
- Experience in running a cloud-native architecture and infrastructure
- Interest in customer and partner feedback and data collection to inform decisions and iteration
- Ability to communicate technical ideas to people from other areas of expertise
- Team player, comfortable collaborating in a remote set up
- Automation mindset, never does the same thing twice and encourages others to be the same
- Experience working in med tech, specifically developing SaMD(Software as medical device) within a regulated framework
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer with experience building large-scale web applications to help us build a cutting-edge genetic diagnostics platform
- As a member of our Engineering team, you will help build and improve the backend, API and cloud architecture
- You will be expected to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, implement automated testing and continuous integration as well as participate in code reviews
- Ideally, you will take ownership of your work and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving
- You will work in a cross-functional team with other software engineers as well as specialists in genomics, data science and product teams to help design, develop and implement backend software solutions that enable us to provide high-quality services to our clients

About 475 million people, or 10 percent of the world's population, suffer from rare diseases, and over 80% of them are genetic in nature. Nostos Genomics is an AI-driven genetic analysis platform that enables genetic testing labs to give more people a clear and fast diagnosis.
The platform’s AI solution “AION” automatically identifies pathogenic variants and genetic mutations through leveraging a combination of machine learning and functional genomics. Typically, the average diagnosis time for these tests is 4-5 years, but sometimes patients can be looking at closer to a decade. This lead time paired with extensive and expensive workups and testing is telling of how transformative Nostos Genomics technology can be.
The company recently received a new influx of funding which it hopes to put towards quickly expanding the team, entering a series of new markets including the US, and conducting more studies to further develop its platform.
