Role
Who you are
- 3+ years of experience building web apps with Python
- 2+ years of experience building API-driven products
- Product intuition and a keen interest in how tech investments drive intended business outcomes
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
- Strong communication and project management skills
- A collaborative nature and comfort working with team members across the company
- A commitment to continuous learning and growth and comfort with giving and receiving constructive feedback
Desirable
- A history of building web apps with the Django framework
- Experience using javascript frameworks such as Vue or React
- Experience working with component-based CSS frameworks like Tailwind CSS
- Familiarity with tools related to Data Processing and Pipelines like SQL, Airflow, and DBT
- Background with development tools like Docker, Git and Webpack
What the job involves
- In this role, you'll have the opportunity to directly impact the industry's evolution, working on the core of our platform: the agent's operating system
- This system is not just a tool, but the foundation of our brokers’ daily work
- As a vital member of the scalability squad on our engineering team, you’ll work to ensure our platform and processes are ready to meet the needs of a rapidly growing business
- This involves working closely with our product team and cross-functional stakeholders to understand our business processes and ensure their efficiency and maintainability
- Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse and impactful
- You'll engage in both backend and frontend development, collaborate with product and design teams to innovate new functionalities, and work with other engineers to scale our solutions for a rapidly growing customer base
- Embracing a data-driven approach, you will play a crucial role in developing technology that not only meets current needs but also anticipates future challenges, ensuring Spark continues to deliver exceptional value and performance to our top brokers
- Work across Spark’s full stack in JavaScript and Python to build and maintain Spark’s agent and member-facing products
- Meet regularly with product and design to provide constructive feedback on design mockups and product scope
- Work closely with product to deeply understand the relationship between agents and Medicare beneficiaries, focusing on developing features that ultimately improve retiree outcomes
- Identify and manage technical debt, while also building robust infrastructure and frameworks to support the scalability of our platform
- Actively contribute to the tech team’s development standards, promoting best practices and continual improvement
Our take
Medicare is the national health insurance package for US citizens over the age of 65, with most people that seek to enrol in a plan making use of brokers to help them evaluate and select options. Spark is a technology company and “concierge” service that partners with independent Medicare brokers and provides a platform that helps them navigate and build retirement benefit packages for customers.
Handling the marketing, sales support, back office, and compliance requirements of Medicare brokering, Spark bridges the gap between insurance agents and their customers. The company already has partnerships with more than 100 leading Medicare agencies that represent over 3400 brokers, a good starting point from which to grow.
Agetech is a growing market, due to an aging population and longer lifespans, and Spark has benefitted from an increased demand and interest in Medicare brokering. Highlighting this is its 2024 raise of a $25 million Series B funding round that will support its future growth and product development.
