Who you are
- A leader in TypeScript engineering with several years of experience in designing and building solutions
- Proven track record of leading significant improvements in quality, performance, stability and scalability to platforms
- Significant experience leading architectural system designs
- Experience fostering strong engineering cultures, DevOps Culture, TDD Culture, etc
- Experience working with the following technologies/stack:
- Microservices, Backend-For-Frontend, JavaScript/TypeScript, React 17+, Modern CSS, such as Tailwind, CSS-in-JS, GraphQL/OpenAPI, NodeJS
Desirable
- Cross-platform technologies such as React Native/Expo, Azure technologies, Jest/Vitest, Cypress/Playwright, NextJS and Vercel technologies, React Server Components, React Query, Zod, Storybook, Vite/Webpack
What the job involves
- We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our MOTORS business and accelerate our business using modern web technologies
- You will be positioned as an Expert Contributor at the brink between Product, Commercial, and Engineering.
- Lead the refactoring of complex systems and resolution of complex problems, making pragmatic trade-offs between perfection and technical debt to align with our priorities as a business
- Functionally lead the Typescript team with the launch of our new modern cloud-based scalable platform
- Ensuring existing systems continue to be maintained at a high standard and managing short to medium-term improvements where required
- Contribute towards delivering high quality code by improving coding standards and best practices, taking into account wider requirements such as performance, reliability, availability, scalability and security
- Lead good agile team outcomes ensuring engineering decisions are made that factor in technical debt, systems design, stability/reliability, monitoring/observability, and business needs
- Represent the team in design reviews and operational readiness exercises for new and existing services
- Dive deep into system and application performance and reliability issues; partner with software and systems engineers across the organisation
