Role
Who you are
- We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to the lead this fast-growing team, partnering closely with other Engineering Manager, Product Managers, and Designers
- 5+ years in people management with a product engineering team
- Experience leading teams through all parts of the product development lifecycle. You’ve lived design, implementation, end-to-end testing, observability, release strategies, and incident management
- Experience in complex cloud-based workflows, including web and command-line based applications. You have earned wisdom about best practices in frontend architecture, API design, and developer experience
- Success partnering with in-house recruiting to hire and retain senior engineering talent
- Degree in Computer Science or similar
- Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team
- You have strong written communication skills. You can communicate complex engineering tradeoffs to stakeholders with differing levels of technical fluency
- You have startup or scaleup experience. You may be asked to wear many hats, and agility in shifting roles and scopes will contribute to your success
- You’re open to a variety of languages and technologies. Today dbt Labs engineering works in TypeScript, React, Python, Go, and Kubernetes across cloud providers
- You have an opinion on what constitutes high-performing and clear direction on arriving there with your team

- You’ll be working across teams, features, tools, and technologies to support a rich business-critical product surface area that our customers depend on for their day-to-day operations
- We’re also excited to expand our engineering team in Ireland
- The successful candidate will be at the forefront of setting the tone for the engineering org and helping us grow our brand presence
- Build, lead, and coach a team of engineers to deliver delightful developer experiences
- Empower your team with business context. Support their ownership of the team roadmap, product development lifecycle, and technical excellence
- Partner with Product and Design to create a long-term vision for data practitioner workflows
- Coach engineers in product thinking, quality, and system design. Build individualized growth plans and match interests and capabilities to available work
- Work with peer managers to evolve organizational processes like hiring, onboarding, and project execution
- Address customer needs and concerns in partnership with our Customer Support team

Our take
In 2018, dbt Labs founder Tristan Handy was running an analytics company and created a data build tool (or ‘dbt’) to help transform data for analysis. Fast forward one year and dbt Labs was born, offering its tools to help companies everywhere transform their data workflows.
Raw data comes in myriad forms and dbt Labs’ software allows data specialists to manage the data transformation layer making its use for analysis much easier. It offers consulting services on top of the software, and has ridden a wave of companies embracing digital transformation more as their services and workplaces become more online.
Seen as the defacto standard for modern analytics engineering by many, it reached unicorn status within 2 years of launch and is focusing future efforts on expanding reach more markets outside of the US. Its recent acquisition of Transform, an analytics engineering company, will aid in further developing its product's data transformation capabilities.
