Role
Who you are
- A minimum of five years of total experience is required, with recent hands-on experience writing production-level code (Python is preferred / Java / C++ / Go)
- Experience in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure
- Expertise in relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
- Experience driving medium/large projects from inception to completion
- Great written and verbal communication skills. We work with people across time zones and diverse backgrounds, so you need to be able to communicate both effectively and inclusively
- Experience working with cross functional teams
- Data platform experience (preferred)
- You thrive off of supporting your peers and teammates; no job is too small for you
- You have a passion for developer productivity, great documentation, and an understanding of how to build a strong engineering culture
- You take pride in driving projects from ideation to completion, sometimes requiring partnership with stakeholder teams to carefully roll out changes

What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer - 1, you will build and maintain core parts of our data and application platform
- Our team offers an experienced and mature engineering culture and an environment where every single engineer has a direct impact on the success of our business
- The Platform team’s mission is to provide Stellar with cutting-edge, reliable, and easy-to-use infrastructure for ingesting, storing, processing, and extracting valuable insights from data in order to enable downstream users to be successful
- The team is tight-knit with high ownership, and your work will have a meaningful impact on our ability to directly improve patient access to health care
- The Platform handles external integrations, data ingestion, normalization and transformation
- In partnership with our technical implementation and analytics teams, it also owns data quality, performance measurement and enables advanced analytics and data science applications
- On this team, you’ll build and manage ETLs and the infrastructure that makes them easily configurable and more automated
- You’ll orchestrate complex workflows that process billions of claims for millions of patients, and you’ll create foundational data models that allow our analytics partners to build quickly and safely on top of robust, correct data
- Handle data from 10M+ patients being ingested on a regular cadence, in a fully automated way
- Build and maintain tooling that supports over 60 integrations, including batch processing and event based processing, doubling every year
- Maintain a high degree of data safety and quality
- Continue to lower costs, decrease turnaround time and raise quality from data ingestion to data consumption to insight generation
- Create tools, automation and frameworks to streamline and build reliable data ingestion pipelines
- Work on systems that generate new patient recommendations based on their health claims data, and build intuitive workflows that help clinicians focus on high impact interventions
- Build best-in-class services and infrastructure for our platform teams
- Ensure our users are presented with timely and accurate information that helps them do their job
- Evolve the architecture to improve operational efficiency and support business growth
- Actively contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture and ensure engineers are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform
- Provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ work
- Set consistent standards via code and design reviews, as well as your own technical contributions
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, including but not limited to data ingestion, consumption, and export
- Build a high quality platform which is scalable, efficient, and flexible to handle various customer and internal data
- Work with leaders and key stakeholders to identify the bottlenecks for the system and for the whole end-to-end process to improve SLOs, improve data quality, and reduce manual work
Our take
A problem in healthcare is little thought is given to the doctors and staff who coordinate all of the daily patient workflow, such as historical claims, pharmacy requests, lab work, testing and billing. Stellar Health aims to drastically reduce these 'chores' through a cloud-based platform on which primary care providers can offer value-based care through real-time information updates about patients.
The point-of-care workflow platform also strives to close the incentive gap between payors and care providers by helping practitioners earn more revenue for keeping patients healthy, rather than simply charging for procedures and treatments. While Stellar Health faces stiff competition from major players such as Siemens Healthcare and AthenaHealth, it has already made great ground in the market with over 1.1M patients across 37 states.
The company has secured significant investment from Primary Venture Partners and Point 72. This funding and its growing revenue are being put towards further scaling its operations and accelerating its product development. Operating in a rapidly growing industry which reached a value of over $4 billion in 2025, Stellar Health is in a good position for future growth and success.
