Role
Who you are
- Work on a modern stack built upon: TypeScript, ReactJS, Node.js, and Docker containers in Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform (experience with these specific technologies not required)
- 2+ years of technical leadership or management experience in software engineering
- 5+ years of software experience architecting, building, launching and maintaining complex systems, ideally with hands-on exposure to machine learning, natural language processing, or applied AI (a formal degree is not required, we are prioritizing industry experience)
- Passion for software engineering to build and ship great product
- Familiarity with modern ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow), MLOps tools (e.g. Weights & Biases, MLflow, SageMaker), and vector database technologies (e.g. Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS)
- Understanding of large language models (e.g. GPT, Claude, LLaMA), prompt engineering, and building with foundation model APIs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face)
- A high bar for quality

What the job involves
- As an Engineering Manager, you will be leading a team of talented, passionate engineers to build the future of digital contracting. You will be responsible for both defining and achieving the success of your team
- Define and execute a technical roadmap that includes intelligent agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, automated reasoning, and ML-based decisioning within Ironclad’s platform
- Manage and grow your engineering team—foster a culture that blends modern AI/ML engineering excellence with pragmatic, product-focused delivery
- Foster a culture of technical excellence - this involves having input and a pulse on the tradeoffs your team is making on a day to day basis and helping your team deliver high quality products that work at scale against tight timelines
- Collaborate closely with AI/ML researchers, product managers, and designers to rapidly prototype, iterate, and ship production-grade AI features
- Establish strong MLOps practices to support training, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of ML models in production environments
- Develop and deliver on an impactful roadmap - this involves partnering with the product manager, designers, managing cross-team dependencies, setting the vision for your team, ensuring every team member is bought in and is on the same page with respect to the “why”. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity Fix what’s broken - Leaders at Ironclad speak up about things that are broken and contribute to organizational solutions and process changes
- You will represent Ironclad to our prospects and customers that run the gamut from modern, category-defining companies to the Fortune 500. In partnership with design and product managers, you will build the world-class product development infrastructure and team that advances our vision to build the product that legal teams love. - Collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers to spec, design, and build features and systems
- Work with quality engineers to define, build and maintain testing strategy

Our take
Business contracting is often inefficient and messy, with approvals required from various stakeholders and many processes still paper-based. Ironclad is a platform that digitises, automates, and streamlines contract workflows, allowing legal teams to focus on legal work rather than paperwork. Ironclad’s platform features collaborative tools that facilitate business operations and extract and catalog contract metadata, making information easier to access and act upon. Its enterprise customers include Dropbox, Mastercard, Pixar, Fox, and L’Oréal.
Despite its success, Ironclad faces competition in the $3 billion contract lifecycle management industry from major players like DocuSign and emerging ones like Contractbook. The company recently announced Ironclad Signature, marking its entry into the $25 billion eSignature market. The new feature speeds up the signature process by an estimated 80% and provides summaries and approval histories to users. This new tool is expected to strengthen Ironclad's position in the sell-side contract lifecycle management market.
Additionally, Ironclad introduced value-based pricing, charging only for completed, signed agreements, unlike other providers who charge for every signature packet sent out. Ironclad, backed by investors like Accel, Sequoia, Y Combinator, and BOND, remains committed to innovating and maintaining its leadership in the contract lifecycle management space.
