What the job involves

  • We're searching for a Senior Director, Engineering to join our engineering leadership team and play a crucial role in shaping our technological foundation
  • This is not your typical Director role - you'll be a hands-on leader with the experience to guide multiple teams
  • You will lead a team and work directly with product and engineering leaders in helping to shape and define market-leading solutions in the face of ambiguous requirements
  • You will have influence and oversight over building cutting-edge consumer software and the rock-solid backend to power it all
  • Work with a passionate, smart and ambitious team of engineers who built large scale systems at Uber, AirBnB, Facebook and Google
  • Take ownership of your own projects while pairing with mentors
  • Defining the technical vision of Bolt Products
  • Design and build mission critical systems, products and solutions that companies and consumers alike will rely heavily on
  • Lead a small team of Engineering Managers each with their own team of direct reports
  • Contribute cross stack and learn a wide variety of skills and technologies
  • Oversee teams in the US and abroad
  • Work with production systems and on-call processes
  • Learn from and help shape our company's engineering culture

Our take

Designed to replace existing checkout models and make buying on any device easy and safe, Bolt provides a one-click checkout solution. Its online shopping software is utilized by companies like Brooks Brothers and Forever 21. As well as supporting all major card providers and alternative payment methods like PayPal, customers also don't need a username or password. This reduces cart abandonment and increases merchant conversion rates.

The company has seen impressive growth, annually processing more than $1 billion in retail transactions across its 300+ retailers. While Bolt has won the race against Google, who tried, and failed with Google Checkout, there are other 'one-click' competitors to watch out for, including Square, who has over 30 million monthly active users.

Company values

  • Win-Win Partnerships - Bolt thinks critically about culture.
They’re not just a list of values on the wall, they’re instilled into our everyday practices. We create an environment where the best ideas win, not the loudest voices in the room
  • Writing > Talking - We value writing over talking, it promotes systematic thought and reasoned arguments; creates a results-oriented mindset, removes the influence of the loudest voices in the room, and fosters collaboration across the organization
  • Live Curiously - We believe a learning and growth mindset is how we evolve and grow as a business and as individuals. At its core, a growth mindset requires curiosity, humility, and openness to giving and receiving feedback from everyone we work with
  • Founder Mentality - We embrace the founder mentality — that means approaching every problem as if we owned the company (because we do), having a bias for action, and doing everything possible to achieve our goals
  • United + Unique - Our team is united by many shared values (hunger to solve hard problems, passion for our mission, thoughtfulness, etc). But we also value the strength that comes when we acknowledge, respect, and embrace our unique histories, skills, and experiences. And, we firmly believe that we win when we are united in our differences
  • Be 20% Wrong, Chase 10X - We move fast, take risks, and chase big outcomes wherever possible. We act fearlessly, take action without waiting for consensus, experiment, fail (and learn from it) and try again
