Role
Who you are
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of people management experience, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management
- Strong technical background in software engineering with hands-on experience in Python, Java, or C++
- Proven experience leading software teams and evolving development practices at scale
- Experience building and operating distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications
Desirable
- Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other complex hardware-software domains
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and applying it in large systems
- Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Formal experience or certification as an Agile Coach or Scrum Master
- Track record of leading organizational or team-level engineering transformations
What the job involves
- In this role, you’ll lead and grow a team of Application Engineers responsible for designing and delivering scalable, high-quality enterprise applications
- You’ll combine strong technical judgment with people leadership to elevate engineering practices, drive modern development methodologies, and help shape how enterprise software is built across the company
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of application engineers, fostering strong engineering culture and best practices
- Guide teams to solve complex problems by identifying root causes and designing elegant, reusable solutions
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable enterprise applications
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including agile methodologies, CI/CD, and automated testing
- Partner cross-functionally to deliver features aligned with Zoox’s strategic and operational goals
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, opened its first Zoox factory for robotaxis in 2025, and is testing the autonomous vehicles in multiple cities in the US.
