Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering
- Demonstrated experience with RF systems design and link budgets
- Electronics design experience preferred
- Advanced experience in Altium Designer or RF simulation software (matlab, HFSS, etc)
- Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Master's degree in aerospace or electrical engineering or related field
- Experience with spacecraft electrical system design and testing
- Familiarity with spacecraft power systems, avionics, and communication subsystems
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to spacecraft RF and electrical systems
- Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, and Simulink
- Experience with regulatory filing committee’s and processes
- Experience in antenna design, harness design, and PCB design
- Experience with encryption algorithms, preferable NSA type 1
- Experience with common waveform standards and forward error correction such as CCSDS and DVB-S2
- Experience with file transfer protocols and memory storage
What the job involves
- As a RF Electrical Engineer at True Anomaly, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and testing of electrical systems across our ground and space hardware
- You will work closely with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the highest level of quality, reliability, and performance of our spacecraft
- Lead the rapid design, development, and testing of high-reliability RF and electrical systems for spacecraft engineering and development efforts
- Drive requirements capture, component selection, analysis, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test for electrical designs
- Analysis includes link budgets, antenna coverage, antenna patterns, and data link rates
- Perform system-level integration of RF and electrical subsystems, including hardware and software interfaces
- Perform first article testing, unit level testing, and production testing
- Support hardware through production, integration, and launch
- Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable and to ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality assurance processes
- Define validation approach and create development and qualification testing campaigns to exercise designs to their limits and ensure reliable hardware
- Develop and maintain documentation for electrical systems and components, including design specifications, test plans, and operating procedures
- Participate in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition to product release and post-release support
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team
- Continuously improve electrical engineering processes and practices to drive innovation and efficiency
Our take
True Anomaly is a space tech startup composed of former military operators and engineers. The Colorado-based company is focused on building spacecraft and software solutions designed to secure U.S. commercial and military interests in space. It has already developed a fully-integrated platform with seamless satellite, navigation, and data-capture technologies that provide security and training for the quickly evolving space market.
Founded in 2022, True Anomaly has already designed its first spacecraft, the Jackal Autonomous Orbital Vehicle, which can be used to train operators on the ground or as intelligence-gathering tools against adversarial spacecraft. Alongside this, the startup has built a 35,000-square-foot facility in Denver to manufacture the Jackals and hired a team of close to 60 people.
With impressive capital gained at the end of 2023, the company validated the Jackal's technical and operational capabilities and made the necessary investments to scale production. Despite this healthy injection of funding, it still had to streamline staff in spring 2024, but is looking leaner and more agile for it, planning to partner with Firefly Aerospace to launch The Jackal in 2025.
