Role
Who you are
- Love writing code and have extensive experience doing so
- 3-8 years of experience in software development
- Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack
- Experience with React or other Javascript frameworks and Typescript (Node) web services
- Proficient in identifying and implementing performant UI optimizations to ensure smooth and responsive user experiences across various platforms and devices
- Experience designing and implementing APIs
- Experience with AWS and cloud tooling such as Kubernetes (EKS), AWS Lambda, Docker
- Ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering and product teams

What the job involves
- We are looking for a full-stack Senior Software Engineer to join our Cloud Video team, who are building extremely low-latency live video capabilities and a custom video management system to solve crime and make the world a safer place. Not for the faint of heart, overwhelmingly impactful
- These cameras bring high-definition, AI-powered video wherever our customers need it
- With instant alerts and clear footage, customers are always in the know, making the area safer and smarter. You do not need video experience for this role
- This engineer will contribute to the rapid development of Flock’s custom-built Video Management Software, where we display live video for our customers
- This interactive application enables our customers to respond to situations quickly through live video, and this engineer will be a key part of the development of the groundbreaking product

- The First 30 Days:
- Understand team workflows and processes
- Contribute smaller features and bugfixes with guidance
- Have all team repos cloned locally and have a good idea of what they do
- The First 60 Days:
- Ability to perform in role with minimal or no guidance
- Contribute to technical planning and architecture discussions
- Understand design philosophies in use
- Contribute to metric collection and automated test suites
- 90 Days & Beyond:
- Come up with and speak on ideas for improving our speed, resource usage, API simplicity, and other topics to make our software suite better
- Start to own smaller projects
- Communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects succeed
Our take
Public vehicle surveillance provides valuable insights to emergency services for the prevention of crime, but bringing information together to create leads is difficult. There's no standardised system for inter-city vehicle surveillance, and this makes it difficult for communities and law enforcement services to work together.
Flock Safety provides surveillance equipment that aims to improve the abilities of law enforcement and homeowner associations to communicate data with each other. The company focuses on vehicle surveillance, innovating on existing technology by using machine learning to categorise vehicles by color, license plate, state, and other data points.
Whilst automated surveillance equipment is used daily within federal police forces, Flock Safety builds technology systems that provide a means for smaller law enforcement agencies to quantify and share surveillance data easily.
