Who you are
- Proven experience in a role which has required clear written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to cultivate and manage stakeholder relationships across all levels
- Prior experience working in an environment with competing deadlines, combining solid organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work in a structured way and deliver high-quality results
- Proven experience in delivering high-quality administrative support, including mailbox management
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to analyse and rapidly assimilate new information and understand complex issues, and provide practical recommendations, while maintaining discretion and composure when handling sensitive and high‑stakes matters
- Ability to work on their own initiative and plan effectively, prioritising tasks and handling competing deadlines, while also contributing positively within a team to meet shared goals
- Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive staff information with discretion, professionalism, integrity, and the ability to maintain security, trust, and confidentiality of information

What the job involves
- We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services
- SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition)
- Sitting in the Sell Side directorate, the MI Wholesale Banks department focuses on the regulation of markets and the regulation of the individual firms that make up those markets, and is critical to ensure the effective operation of the UK’s financial markets and to achieve the FCA’s objectives
- Provide central departmental support by resolving FCA system issues, handling queries, and working closely with the Head of Department’s PAs and the Director’s PA to ensure smooth operations, adequate coverage, and a consistent point of contact
- Providing high‑quality administrative and logistical support, including diary management and coordinating external meetings, travel arrangements, schedules, and related logistics such as venues and accommodation
- Ensure divisional communication channels are kept up to date, including intranet content and information flow, while gaining practical insight into the functioning of wholesale markets and the FCA’s evolving approach
- Work collaboratively across Wholesale Market to support cross‑department coordination, recruitment and onboarding activities, while providing administrative support that ensures consistent processes, effective document management, smooth operations, and efficient systems management
- Providing cross‑divisional administrative support during busy periods or resource gaps, while working at the FCA’s frontline to quickly develop a solid understanding of how wholesale markets operate

Our take
Developed on the back of the Financial Services Act of 2012, the Financial Conduct Authority is a regulatory body that acts as a regulator for financial firms, ensuring the integrity of the financial markets in the UK. Broadly focused on financial companies that provide consumer services, it’s governed by the Bank of England and therefore acts independently of the government.
The FCA is responsible for regulatory innovations, such as stronger customer authentication requirements, including biometric and code requirements for payments, that have clamped down on fraud and improved security for national consumers. The FCA also introduced the Anti-Money Laundering Supervision in 2017.
The organisation’s independence from government ensures its impartiality as a regulator. In the late 2010s, it set up the cryptoasset registration, a department responsible for ensuring the legality of crypto payments. This has become an important aspect of national counter terrorism measures, and exemplifies the complex and vital work that the organisation carries out.
