Who you are
- We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role
- BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Expertise in C/C++ (Python experience is a plus)
- Strong understanding of compilers, data structures, algorithms, and runtime systems
- Experience with one or more of: machine learning, parallelism, high-performance compute, or hardware/software co-design
- Proven leadership in a compiler, tools, or systems software team, including managing other software engineers
- Bonus: Experience with MLIR, LLVM, or custom backend code generation
What the job involves
- We’re seeking a Technical Lead with deep expertise in AI compiler technologies to drive the development of next-generation tools that bridge machine learning frameworks and our custom AI silicon
- This highly visible and cross functional role is central to making our hardware accessible, performant, and developer-friendly
- Lead the design and development of AI compiler tools team including model explorers, IR debuggers, performance profilers, and runtime diagnostics
- Improve and implement infrastructure to enable performance analysis, visualization, and tuning across the full stack
- Develop tools to aid compiler engineers in understanding and optimizing graph transformations, tiling strategies, and placement decisions
- Collaborate with hardware and compiler teams to expose low-level execution metrics and align software abstractions with hardware capabilities
- Integrate diagnostic and developer tools into ML frameworks and CI systems to improve visibility and debugging. Including existing tools across the entire software stack
- Drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and establish best practices for building robust and scalable internal tools teams
- Work closely with product and engineering teams to understand developer pain points and continuously improve the compiler tooling experience

Our take
Advances in artificial intelligence apps, combined with a global chip shortage, are strong tailwinds for chip processor Tenstorrent. The semi-conducter developer is designing specialized chips for running artificial intelligence applications, building chips for what it calls "software 2.0".
The company’s unique approach is to build for this future software, which it believes will be written at a higher level. Combining this with conditional computing, Tenstorrent supports a scalable distributed network approach that is analogous to a human brain.
While the market for specialised AI hardware is destined to be gigantic, the company has to compete with a plethora of hopeful startups (as well as major tech companies like NVIDIA and Qualcomm). That said, Tenstorrent boasts an excellent trajectory so far, with its latest moves including unveiling its high-end Wormhole AI processors, and a partnership with LG which will see the development of chips for "Affectionate Intelligence".
