Role
Who you are
- A rock-solid foundation in software engineering—from design patterns to best practices
- Deep technical expertise in Python, REST APIs, and SQL, with a focus on scalability, high quality, and security
- Natural tech-lead qualities that inspire others with fresh ideas, top engineering standards, and a collaborative spirit by example
- You have 5+ years of experience developing modern API-based applications, ideally for SaaS products within startup-like working environments
- You have senior-level expertise in Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, with a track record of delivering efficient and maintainable solutions
- You have a solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and modern design patterns, which you leverage to build scalable, modular web-based products
- You follow effective testing and QA methodologies to ensure quality and reliability, ideally using tools like Pytest or similar testing frameworks
- You have proven experience leading technical decision-making in complex projects and can identify a balanced approach to trade-offs
- You are a motivated team player with a strong desire for professional growth and a commitment to continuous improvement
- You are business-fluent in English (Level C1)
- Optional big plus if you have experience in projects that combine software and electrical engineering and demonstrate an ability to integrate both domains
- You are located in Germany, The Netherlands, or Spain
What the job involves
- We're looking for a strong Senior Backend Engineer who combines technical excellence with a passion for innovation
- As a Senior Backend Engineer (m/w/d), you will be part of an interdisciplinary engineering team that designs and builds scalable API-driven backends, complex data handling logic, and efficient database transactions to develop high-performance, scalable cloud-based software
- You design and optimize scalable APIs to handle complex business logic and serve precise asset data and geo-data responses efficiently
- You understand data algorithms and complex logic workflows and simplify them for efficiency
- You implement modern architecture and software design patterns to elevate the state of our code base to engineer lean, scalable SaaS products
- You collaborate closely with Frontend and Full-Stack engineers to build efficient backend-frontend interfaces
- You contribute to creating a sustainable, high-performant, and friendly team culture by example, connecting with your teammates to continuously refine and elevate our engineering standards and collaboration practices
- You collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical engineering concepts into our products, improving functionality and user experience
Our take
As the world transitions to sustainable energy, millions of new wind energy systems are being integrated into power grids. As well as the number of new consumer solutions, such as electric charging stations is also rapidly increasing, and the integration of these new systems is putting a strain on distribution grids.
Envelio is a cloud-based smart grid platform providing a solution to this challenge. The Cologne-based company has developed the Intelligent Grid Platform (IGP), a software assistance system that transforms power grids into digital, flexible interactive smart grids. Through IGP grid operation management can be carried out digitally at a quicker, more cost-effective pace.
Born out of the Institute of High Voltage Technology at the RWTH Aachen, Envelio has since grown a steady customer base for itself and expanded on an international scale. Recognised as a clean-tech software company, Envelio is driving the change to sustainable energy.
