Who you are
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience (ideal candidates will have experience working in a financial operating role within a fast-growing retail or consumer products company)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, financial modeling and forecasting techniques
- Thorough finance & accounting knowledge; understanding of the financial statement as well as underlying drivers of account line item
- Experience with a payroll management platform is a plus
- Curiosity in tackling complex business problems as well as operational curiosity; ability to dive deeply into the data, pursue what it means, and how insights drive decision making
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, take initiative, and work independently
- Collaborative working style and excitement about working with cross-functional teams across the company
- Excellent communication skills and loves to share findings and actionable insights

What the job involves
- Tecovas is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team, reporting directly to the Retail FP&A Manager
- In this role, you’ll help scale our growing retail channel by driving expense and sales forecasting for our 50+ stores, partnering cross-functionally on budget vs
- Actual analysis, and delivering monthly and quarterly reporting to both corporate and field teams
- This is a highly collaborative position that is expected to build strong partnerships across the business to align strategy, optimize performance, and support growth
- Manage the Retail 4-Wall P&L by forecasting expenses including but not limited to: store labor allocations, hospitality spend, visual merchandising and maintenance, and other various operating costs
- Assist with forecasting sales and core performance metrics (traffic, conversion rate, and related KPIs) that consider YoY comp analysis and factor in major local events to contextualize trends
- Champion monthly and quarterly close budget vs. actuals and reporting to ensure cross-functional partners are on track to achieve particular margin targets
- Be a key partner in implementation and onboarding of payroll management and predictive forecasting platform
- Help prepare for comprehensive meetings such as Quarterly Business Reviews and an Annual Fleet Review
- Own the annual planning process for Retail by working closely with key stakeholders to develop budgets that align with overall company goals
- Drive process improvements aimed at creating scalability and efficiencies across FP&A
- Create ad-hoc analyses as needed; must be comfortable analyzing large amounts of data in Excel and summarizing findings in PowerPoint presentations
Our take
Cowboy boots are timeless - an icon of American fashion that has endured through the ages. But Tecovas aims to bring them into the 21st Century with an online retail model that doesn’t skimp on quality.
Its boots are traditionally made at a veteran boot factory in Léon, Mexico, with over 200 steps in the process, but Tecovas’ straight-to-consumer model allows the company to bypass middle-party retailers and knock nearly $100 off the average price points of their boots.
It’s the first company to offer this sort of model for this product, and has upended a billion-dollar industry in doing so. Its initial success has helped it to open 13 physical stores in Texas, the state with the biggest market for cowboy boots. But over 70% of Tecovas’s sales come from other states, allowing the company to essentially create new markets where other brands that only operated in brick-and-mortar stores are unable to compete.
