Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in designing successful mobile apps, with examples of end-to-end mobile product design
- Track record of designing successful user-centric B2C and/or B2B applications
- Advanced proficiency in Figma
- Experience in producing detailed mobile design specs and collaborating closely with engineering teams for implementation
- Experience performing user research and understanding customers
- Excellent visual and interaction design skills
- Systems-thinking approach with the ability to think beyond what’s on the screen
- Solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present rationale for design decisions
- Demonstrated ability to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision and strategy for global products
- Fluency in best practices for mobile and desktop design, as well as knowledge of usability principles and techniques
- Strong time management skills and the ability to direct others when needed
- Ability to accurately scope and deliver work on a tight schedule, doesn’t let perfect get in the way done
- Construction industry knowledge or experience is preferred
What the job involves
- As a Senior Product Designer you will own an entire product vertical at the core of our business as well as helping guide the horizontal infrastructure and processes used by the design team and others: design systems, mobile strategy, co-creation workshops
- You will have the space to apply a wide range of skills from user research to crisp visual design, and when a project calls for it, learning new ones along the way (think motion design)
- In this role, the designer will be expected to ideate and help develop the product roadmap alongside the PM, sometimes executing projects that are best led by design from navigation refactoring to look-and-feel updates
- Your product vertical may cover UI for navigating through 3D space and time, the mobile app for capturing and viewing job sites, managing and viewing 3D models, construction issue resolution, camera and hardware integrations, and dashboards and data visualizations, to help keep users informed about the status of their jobsite
- Lead the end-to-end design process for our mobile experience across iOS and Android platforms
- Define the design process and can lead others through it
- Ensure consistency across a variety of products and platforms in the end-to-end user experience
- Inspire and direct the team to help build towards a meaningful vision efficiently
- Provide leadership and mentorship to more junior designers
- Define the user experience through IA, user flows, and wireframes
- Design pixel-perfect B2B UI with a B2C mentality
- Work alongside PM to clarify features, product requirements, roadmap, and scope
- Prototype concepts and test with customers
- Execute usability studies, field research, site visits, and customer 1:1s to understand the user and collect feedback about the product and design work. You get to visit customers on major construction projects!
- Define and evangelize our design language system in Figma
- Produce handoff specs/assets and work directly with engineers for implementation of designs
- Work closely with our c-suite, PMs, engineers, and marketing teams to define, socialize, and execute design work
- Ship real things that people in the real world actually use!
Our take
360 photos and virtual tours are nothing new. Popularly used to enhance estate agent listings, or create tours of attractions, tools such as Kuula, Panoskin, and Matterport have captured that market. But OpenSpace is applying similar technologies to another industry sector - construction.
With a simple store-bought camera attached to a hard hat, a site walk-through creates a virtual 3D replica of any space. This detailed capture, reminiscent of Google Street View, eliminates the need for site visits, saving time and also reducing risks of visitors to building sites.
Other 360 virtual tour companies will probably offer their services to construction in the future, but OpenSpace hopes to keep the lead with its superior processing speed. (Its approach creates results in just fifteen minutes as opposed to the hours or days of other systems.) It is also well-funded, so can get on with scaling the business and developing additional AI-powered technologies to keep its value up.
