Who you are
- Proven experience as an embedded UX Researcher with a track record of identifying and elevating user needs and driving the delivery of value to them
- Effective systems thinking capabilities with an open mind and ability to think holistically, rather than rely on a predictable formula or a linear approach
- Experience utilizing a variety of mixed methods in research (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.)
- Able to leverage research to make the business successful, applying your technical understanding to accomplish company goals
- Proficiency in communicating user research findings with cross-functional partners to drive impact
- Experience with products made for developers, administrators, or other technical audiences
- Strong ability to plan, prioritize and organize effectively and collectively, with their manager and cross functional partners, determine a roadmap
- Strong decision making and problem solving capabilities while working with constraints
- History of effective communication with all levels of management and company personnel
- Empathy for users, knowledge of and passion for technical experiences
- Excellent communication skills
- Possess empathy for users, knowledge of and passion for the technical experiences
- Experience working on security products (and especially SaaS or enterprise technology) is a plus
- Experience facilitating large cross functional groups to achieve a common goal
- Are a voracious learner and coach to people around you, raising the bar for the team
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, psychology, human-computer interaction (or other related field)
What the job involves
- As a Senior UX Researcher at Okta, you will play a crucial role in helping define and illuminate the needs of our Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners and customers to execute our vision of establishing Okta as a two sided platform that connects SaaS builders and SaaS consumers within a secure, interoperable app ecosystem
- You will proactively construct and own a research roadmap, working closely with your design, product, and engineering partners to ensure that your research is aligned to the highest priority needs, and informing both long and near-term strategy and product decisions to drive growth of Okta’s ISV ecosystem
- You will cultivate and nurture a culture of curiosity and learning across your cross functional team by ensuring that designers, product managers, and engineers are able to leverage foundational and evaluative insights in their day-to-day work
- Scope, prioritize, organize, and manage research initiatives focused on growing Okta’s ISV ecosystem
- Exercise flexibility in research methodology (as appropriate for the product space and timeline) by designing and utilizing generative studies or evaluative research, appropriately
- Facilitate cross-discipline research to drive clarity and decision-making
- Design mechanisms to build up customer empathy and deep knowledge of our partners, end users, consumers, administrators, and other identified audiences
- Represent your research to diverse audiences across the organization
- Handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently
- Provide coaching and mentorship to more junior researchers/employees at Okta
- Grow and develop a research practice that unlocks partner and customer insights and value, ultimately moving the business forward

The new approach towards network security is increasingly based on identification and authentication, and Okta is on track to become the go-to vendor in the space. It aims to do so by developing products that enable people to access applications and other tools more smoothly and securely than ever before.
Okta has taken strides towards expansion through significant employee growth and shuffling executive leadership. The company has also made lateral moves such as tackling governance concerns, opening up new paths for revenue.
