Role
Who you are
- You’re a software engineer with at least 5 years commercial experience
- You have a genuine enthusiasm for software engineering and take no greater pleasure than finding the right solution to the problem at hand and making practical tradeoffs

- A keen eye for (or interest in) user experience and intuitive design
- At least 5 years of commercial experience as a software engineer or equivalent, with at least 3 years in mobile app development.
- Fluency in at least one app development stack (Android/Kotlin, iOS/Swift, Flutter, React Native)
- Solid knowledge of mobile design patterns
- Experience with TDD and testable code - unit / integration / performance testing
- Great verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in a simple way to non-engineering teammates
- Excellent English skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to zoom in and out - be comfortable with getting into the relevant low-level details while also making the optimal tradeoffs for achieving the “big picture” goals
- An eye for user behaviour and design and attention to detail
Desirable
- A degree in CS or equivalent is a plus
- Are an expert in React Native
- Have experience measuring and building fast apps, with low resource consumption
- Experience writing integration and e2e tests
- Experience building and testing accessible applications
- Experience in implementing in practices concepts of A/B Testing and Progressive Rollout of features to production
- Have built or contributed to a Design System used by many different teams
- Practical experience with CI/CD and IaC (Infrastructure-as-code)

- Develop beautiful & reliable mobile applications
- Develop and maintain high-performance, secure, and scalable mobile applications for our own customer facing products, and e-commerce capabilities using modern frameworks
- Collaborate with the design/product team on improving user experience
- Develop extensible platforms and architectures that make it possible to quickly and efficiently launch new products and lines of business
- Actively improve the way we build mobile apps and pave the road to solve new challenges
- Evolve a Design System that leverages work of all Product and Tech teams
- Drive impact in a team environment
- You’ll work with other software engineers, designers, QAs, product managers, business stakeholders and domain experts
- You’ll drive impact and own your work end2end - from scoping & planning, architectural design decisions, implementation and testing, to production deployment and operations

MANUAL is a digital healthcare clinic supporting patients with life-changing conditions such as hormonal imbalance, obesity, menopause and hair loss across the UK and Brazil. It does this with a blend of doctor-specialist services, prescription medication backed by science, and digital products informed by behavioural change.
Manual works to remove the stigma around health problems such as obesity, hormone imbalances and menopause through teleconsultations, testing, regular check-ins and a range of tools, supplements and medications to treat commmon issues like poor sleep, hair loss, erectile dysfunction and skin conditions. Originally focused solely on men's health, the service led a shift in attitudes among its customers, with about half the men using the service to treat more than one condition, indicating that they're not just seeking help for the worst health issue that they're experiencing. Since, then it has opened its services to all genders with a hope to sift attitudes on a wider variety of health issues.
Manual has raised an impressive amount of capital, most recently in 2024. This funding is being used to expand its reach and enhance its services, particularly focussing on treatments for hormonal imbalance, obesity, and hair loss.
