Role
Who you are
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of software development experience, including backend (e.g., Go, Java/Kotlin) and frontend (e.g., TypeScript, React Native) technologies
- 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a strong track record in full stack or platform-oriented application development
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems in a microservices environment
- Experience driving and building long-term technical strategy across multiple engineering teams
- Experience leading multi-quarter complex engineering projects with several engineers and working in partnership with one or more partners such as Product Managers, Program Managers, or TPMs
- Experience mentoring engineers up to the Senior Engineer level
- Experience with technical interviewing candidates for all levels up to Senior Engineer
What the job involves
- We're hiring a Engineering Manager to join our Scout team—Remitly's agentic AI team responsible for building AI-powered experiences that help customers send money and complete tasks wherever they are—whether on Remitly's website, mobile app, or third-party platforms like WhatsApp
- As a manager of the Scout team, you'll collaborate across teams to enable money transfer functionality on external platforms and help other domains by providing them with a robust conversational AI platform
- You'll lead a full stack engineering team, guide technical strategy, and collaborate with partners in Product, Design, and Analytics to bring customer growth and business impact
- This role offers the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional partners including UX, Legal, Compliance, and Marketing, as well as most platform engineering teams, giving you exposure to a wide range of technical and business challenges
- You will be reporting to Senior Engineering Manager
- Manage a team of engineers, provide technical leadership and lead complex, cross-team engineering efforts
- Guide and support team members in their career development journey
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data teams to recognize and explore significant enhancement prospects, validating hypotheses, and enhancing key performance indicators
- Engage in all phases of product development, from brainstorming to execution to deployment, which involves swift prototyping, conducting A/B tests, and deploying code to production
- Establish standards for planning, encompassing defining quarterly objectives, allocating resources, and adapting priorities as needed
- Utilize your proficiency in technical writing, distributed systems architecture, coding, and software development methodologies to drive remarkable outcomes for the team
- Be a role model in upholding Remitly's cultural values and use them as a framework to mentor other engineers across the company to achieve their full potential
- You will help set and hire against a high engineering talent bar for the team

Since its inception in 2011 Remitly has focussed on helping immigrants to send money across the world faster, cheaper and easier. The company has grown exponentially since then and now operates across multiple continents. Remitly put down most of its success on putting its customers first.
The emergence of digital banks with low transaction fees cross-country has increased competition in a space where Remitly was dominant for many years. The company must continue to innovate its product to ensure it is the go-to place for these types of payments.
However, Remitly continues to partner with exciting companies and improve their service for loyal customers. The company is setting its sights beyond its core remittance service, such as through the recent introduction of Passbook, an app that allows customers to access digital banking through a partner bank.
